    ... There are also lots of other plants and trees as well. There's a hot house with just stunning orchids. There's even a blue orchid. I didn't know you could get blue flowers.     ... suddenly be zooted off on another highway going in totally the wrong direction!) and the drive through Death Valley wasn't too comfortable (we stupidly drove through at the hottest time of the day) but for the rest the driving and the distances were easy to cover. On reflection we were pleased that we had decided to hire a car instead of a camper van as we were much more flexible with the car, particularly in the big cities.

    ... pleasantly empty boat. We did end up choosing a perfect time because the next line up for the 7:00 tour was about 5 times the size of ours when we had gone an hour earlier.

    ... The remainder of the time we spent looking at the middle ages and Renaissance art. The Rijks includes a floor also for more modern art and some Van Gogh, but we skipped those.

    We bee-lined it to the Night Watch by Rembrandt. Like people say about a lot of art and buildings: they're always much grander in person. It's a massive painting.
