In a couple of hours we'll be leaving Holland to begin the first leg of our journey. Somehow leaving on September 11 feels appropriate because, as tragic as it was, this day above all others reminds me of the strength and courage of Americans, both now and in those early days of the founding of the original colonies.

When I finally left the park, it was late in the evening and I hadn't worked out a hotel arrangement. I decided to just sleep in my car. I drove back to Traverse City and parked in the Walmart parking lot. It would've been a lot better if my car windows were tinted, but no one bothered me.
