In a couple of hours we'll be leaving Holland to begin the first leg of our journey. Somehow leaving on September 11 feels appropriate because, as tragic as it was, this day above all others reminds me of the strength and courage of Americans, both now and in those early days of the founding of the original colonies.

There won't be much to comment on for the first couple of days. We'll be stopping in Columbus, ...

We made it down to the beach in time to catch a beautiful sunset and have a cruise around town. Despite being a lake this place really did feel like a beach, with the white sand and water stretching as far as the eye could see.

We also got evil stares from two sisters that had to sit in-between us. Now that we're home and I'm writing this after the fact, I wish both babies would have screamed the whole time just to annoy them :) We were incredibly relieved when we ...

... rest of the way to the top of the dune for an overlook of Lake Michigan. The view is BREATHTAKING!!!! I stayed and watched the sunset, I didn't want to leave!!!

When I finally left the park, it was late in the evening and I hadn't worked out a hotel arrangement. I decided to just sleep in my car. I drove back to Traverse City and parked in the Walmart parking lot. It would've been a lot better if my car windows were tinted, but no one bothered me.
