Estonia's Summer Capital.

I let the tent dry out a little after we got up. The kids had a go at archery, using one bow and six arrows. The manager supervised them for about 20 minutes, before he got bored. I could sense his growing realisation, that the arrow arcing into the ground six feet away, was likely to be the best shot of the day.

We headed for Pärnu, a pretty seaside town, ten minutes away. Nick scared the wits out of a Polish lorry driver by trying to turn the wrong way up a ...

Adventurous Camping

Jöekääru Adventure Camp is not quite what it seems. Its advertising boasts of corporate facilities, an adventure park, archery, kayaking, paint-balling and a climbing wall. In reality, it is a quiet but pleasant campsite with a play area for the children. It is probably more suited to us, than the all singing, all dancing campsite it pretends to be.

To be fair, it does have at least one of each of the items it claims to have, but they are not exactly in mint ...

The 1st day.

As we were so excited the night before, all this packing, getting to know each other (as we didn't have all the time in the world for that), few glasses of wine ... We woke up at 12pm the next day. Although we were a little disappointed that we didn't have an early start we felt fresh from the long sleep and happy that we both shared the same sleeping pattern. (as long as we can!) We made ...

In Pärnu

... out for the first time in my life. My eyes only saw white flashes everywhere, my legs didn't hold me and I was feeling very nauseaus. This state continued for 2-3 minutes. Splashing some cold water helped a bit and I walked to our room and drank half liter of mineral water at once. I guess I suffered from dehydration, since the rain took away the feeling of thurstyness and I drank less than liter of water during 66km of cycling. That and nearly 100 °C sauna wasn't a good match.

... of Tallinn. Instead of stopping by at least for a day and taking a proper look around, all I got there was just a brief stop-over. They say the town becomes pretty sleepy come autumn, but in summer it allegedly springs to life with life on the beach, dozens of festivals, night clubs and the big party crowd that moves in here for the season. Of course, for us from the Mediterranean, saying that a town above 58° of ...

Blog closed - new trips in blogger.com

This blog is now finished. I will stay in Estonia for a couple of days, celebrate the weekend in Riga, and fly to Singapore on Monday. I will be living & working in Singapore for about 1-1,5 years (well, that's at least the plan), traveling around the neighboring countries. If and when I manage to create a blog about my trips around there, it will most probably reside in blogspot.com. Life goes on. Enjoy every moment.

Happy ending! (new trip next week)

This evening I arrived back to Pärnu! Home sweet home! Some general numbers... - 44 days (on the trip since 20.Sept. Actually, I spent 17.-18.Oct in Estonia, so the total should be 42 days) - about 70 hours of pure flight time - 6 countries (Estonia, Latvia, Germany, UK, UAE, South Africa) - 4 timezones skipped (earliest UK summertime GMT+1 ...

... We had a table at a neighbouring restaurant, so had a nice bottle of rose while we listened to the concert. It was a popular classics concert containing such favourites as Beethoven's 5th, William Tell Overture, Peer Gynnt Suite and Ravel's Bolero to name a few. We really enjoyed it. We have now returned to the hotel. Tomorrow we venture into Russia and from our guide's warnings are not sure what communication we will have. I will post what I can, when I can.

Promises of Parnu

After arriving 2 days ago with the promise of Estonia's greatest beaches, where the locals flock in droves to - we discovered, you guessed it RAIN. Beautiful beach yes - long, wide and golden sand but not much fun in the rain, I'm certainly not singing! As for the place, nice little town with 25,000 people, and we did meet our first ...

... the water. I remember I went to Goa in India with a friend of mine once, Roie, and we were staying in a little guesthouse right on the beach. We could just fall out the door in the mornings and we would practically be in the water. The day would start with us laying out the towels on the beach and I would say that 'I'm just going for a little swim' more often than not that little swim would see me coming back an 1hr to 2hrs later. I had already had a swim in Gothenburg on this trip and it ...
