... It is a surreal feeling because I feel like I've been here forever, but it still seems like not a very long time. I do really like it here. The meals are generally quite good, though there is the odd bad day. I've only cooked for myself a couple of times. I do miss cooking, but since I'm paying for the cafeteria meal regardless I don't want to waste it. I've mastered the bus route and how to get around town and to and from Cottingham Village. I've also managed ...

It wasn't too bad though, I made some friends with the other students. We didn't get to Hull until 10pm at ...

... child to the anxious father in Australia.

Ellen died soon after returning to Australia.

My research over the last couple of years has led me to find Arthur with Ellen's mother Mary and Ellen’s siblings in the 1911 Census. I had also accessed his birth and death certificate, but had no idea what happened to him between 1911 and 1982, other than he had at least one daughter recorded as the informant on his death ...

I met up with my second cousin, once removed, Trevor and Janet Holmes. I connected with Trevor when while I was recovering from my second knee surgery in 2011, my family tree detecting began in earnest.

It was a bank holiday on the Monday after I arrived in Hull and when I told Trevor and Janet I was hoping to get around my ancestors old haunting ground, they laughed and rejigged their schedule so they could take me out for the day and show me by car ...
