... about our day (remember all on the same route) everyone's stories are different as if we didn't even take the same road!!

My story is of several towns, 7 to be exact. The towns of Pereje, Trabadelo, Portela, Ambasmestas, Vega de Valcarce, Ruitelan and finally Las Herrerias. Each one charming and quaint. Lots of window boxes with bright flowers. There were tiny little churches, yucca with blooms over my head and groovy, cool ...

Refreshed after a nights sleep, I decided today, for the first time, not take the route via the mountain. I knew I'd be fine uphill, but I would have to take a taxi downhill from the top, and I wanted to walk the whole way today. I diverted through the town square, as it was market day, which was fascinating. Loads of delicious freshly picked vegetables, cured meats, cheeses and not so delicious big dead dried fish were on display. I ...

Today was met with anticipation. The elevation map shows this day as the steepest of them all. We adjusted our plans to make for a shorter walk given the elevation gain. Turns out it was a piece of cake and we had a very enjoyable "stroll" up the mountain to O'Cebriero, an old Galacian village at the top of the mountains. The guidebook says the transatlantic winds travel 5000 miles to meet these mountains as the first obstacle. We wear our coats full time now ...

Left Cacabelos this morning. Walked through the lovely town of Villafranca where we had lunch and met Julie (Colorado). Susan is ahead but on the same day-plan. Irish lads are long gone :( This was a rather easy day walking as Renee and I both felt healthy. We were blessed with a route that followed Rio Valcarse - an absolutely beautiful river that winds through rolling hills a pastures. Our rain gear got a thorough test with persistent rain most of ...

Villafranca del Bierzo to Ruitelan - 19.2 kms Well, when staying at the municipal albergues, you can be sure of an early morning. We were at the cafe by 7am as expected, for our eggs on toast, but the owner didn't show, so we wandered down to the town square, had a quick bite and juice,,then on our way. Just as we were leaving town, I managed to roll my ankle. Not too ...
