Late this morning, after we had packed the car and given up hope of visiting Patrick (Paddy) Leigh Fermor's house, Mary got a call with the green light from the Benaki Museum in Athens. We walked there (half a mile along a public path) and were greeted by Elpida, supervisor of the house and Paddy's caretaker during the last 7 years of his long life. She showed us around (no photos inside) and told great strides with great affection for her old boss. ...

... its merits (or lack thereof), but seeing the walls and ceiling of a church covered in frescoes was truly something else. I myself didn't really care for the style before I began the class (still unsure how I feel, but I can at least appreciate it now), but it's really different to be looking at a fresco or mosaic on a slideshow or in a book, and then just being absolutely surrounded by them.

... it was, along the motorway through Tripoli, to Paradisia, where the new motorway gave way to the older road which took us on to the large town of Messini. At Messini we had to disembark,and wait about 10 - 15 minutes for the local bus to Methoni via Pylos. This is when "direct" became meaningless. Poor Haylee fell out of bed last night and woke up screaming with a bruise on her forehead. We have the girls separated and last night Haylee was with Will so he helped her try to feel better. It was almost morning time so Haylee and Will got up and started down the stairs when Haylee vomited. Uh oh!!! Change of plans for today. low key and keeping both eyes on Haylee.
