Nice, but for the little ants

This is a large, spacious shiny place where everything seems to be set on a grand scale. The rooms are clean and spacious, the buffet is extensive, and the spa and pools - yes there is more than one - are outstanding. Our only complaint is the tiny ants in our room. There aren't a lot of them and they truly are tiny but it would be nicer if there were none.

Quiet comfortable and quiet rooms with a balcony, free wifi, and modern rooms and bathrooms. Our had a view of the Adriatic. Breakfast buffets are extensive and delicious as is their dinner buffet. Hotel layout is strange and the lobby appears a bit sterile but apart from that we highly recommend it and would stay here again.

Tonight, at about 10:20 PM I am sitting out on the balcony of our hotel room writing this blog. It's only 18 degrees and there is a little breeze but it rarely touches me in this sheltered spot and in the meantime I can watch the crescent moon slowly inching towards the roof of the other wing of this hotel. I'm not sure how long I'll last tonight, …

Our long journey to Dubrovnik took us from San Francisco to Chicago to Vienna to Zagreb to Dubrovnik and as the pictures indicated, we progressively became more tired.

This was our second visit (my first being in 1969) to the lovely city of Dubrovnik, the first being a stop on a cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean back in 2008. We looked …

... gone, then head in and walk the city walls.
The beaches are a little rocky, but not too bad, and the water was surprisingly colder than in Split! Swim, relax, people watch - it was a good day.

Got to the walls about 5:30 and they were pretty quiet, which was perfect, and the sun was also starting to go down which provided some nice lighting. That took about an hour and got some nice photos of the city.

... months and continually shelled the city and fired mortar rounds from the hills overlooking it. You can still see the damage to some of the buildings and the paving stones from these attacks. Most houses in Dubrovnik sustained some damage – generally the roofs were destroyed. After the war they restored the roofs with tiles that look fairly similar to the old ones but are made of modern materials. ...
