Back on the bikes! 60km from Allemont up to a little town called Villard Reymond. The village way tiny. On the way we had to ride through 3 pitch black tunnels the longest which was 370m. There was one little old French lady with a cafe overlooking the mountains, so we stopped for some apricot tart and raspberry mousse. She was the loveliest lady! Back ...

    Rest day at Allemont

A travel blog entry by eyork on Jul 29, 2015

We left our beloved botchy field, filled up with petrol and drove around the corner to Allemont. We hunted again for gas, or some way to make it work, but no luck. Again. Not very happy! Not only with the gas, but also troubles with the fridge and 12V powerpoints. Baguette for lunch, set up the van with electricity and went for a walk. Cold and rainy this afternoon, but still able to wander through the town of Allemont. A nice quiet rest day ...

Today is the big day, the TdF stage finishes in Alpe d'Huez. The whole town has been building up to this moment for a week. Every day more people arrive, more cars, more camper vans, more drinking, more eating and more noise.Given our Chalet Coppi is right on the corner of the main street and the TdF passes by most people in our ride group decided to have a rest day from the bikes and just enjoy the atmosphere of ...

    KOM Day 6

... hear people in our group say; "today is an easy day since it is only 13 miles". I would never have thought that I would say Alpe du Huez would be an easy day but after climbing around 30,000 vertical feet this week I am ready for a short day.

The ride to our starting point gave me time to catch up on my blog posts while typing on my IPhone. Today there are more clouds than usual. There are hanging in the valley with the peaks shooting up through. Thankfully ...
