Happy Hallowe'en in Kathmandu

A travel blog entry by nickandbrenda

Our final visit to Kathmandu. We arrived after our flight being delayed from Pokhara but it all worked out well. We got to the hotel and freshened up a bit and went out for a team dinner. Our last one as most of the team would be departing the next day.

It was a lovely place with good food and great atmosphere. After we ordered, Tim our …

The Friendship Bridge and Beyond

From Zhangmu to Kathmandu

Breakfast in the hotel in Zhangmu was bitterly disappointing as it arrived to the table just as we were all getting our bags ready in reception!

The money changers were waiting for us as we got in the cars and lo! if they didn't beat us down to the immigration building at the border as well.

Crossing The Friendship Bridge

A travel blog entry by ecoodysseys

We had our familiar breakfast of chapati and omelette and tea and left Nyalam at 0845 hrs. It was balmy, having drizzled. The road descending to Zhangmu was spectacular and something perhaps not many travellers pay attention to if they were leaving the monotonous Tibetan plain for the lush Nepali landscape. There were deep gorges and moist, green …

Wildest Dreams of Kew

A travel blog entry by ecoodysseys

Breakfast had improved in the hotel - with the addition of potato curry - since my last stay. After a quick dash outside to pick up batteries and trail mix - I did say the Vaishali is well-located - we set off for a day of sightseeing with our guide Pushkar.

First to Boudanath, the world's largest Buddhist Stupa, around which lives a …

To The Himalayan Kingdom

A travel blog entry by ecoodysseys

It was an early morning flight to Kathmandu on Singapore Airlines. I had pre-checked in 5 starboard side window seats on the plane to afford the great Himalayan views as we approached the kingdom of Nepal. The flight SQ414 (using an Airbus), did not disappoint. We had clear views of Kanchenjunga, Everest/Makalu massifs and Annapurna (maybe even …

Great location in Thamel, yet tucked away from the noise and bustle. Probably the best hotel within the shopping area, as better and bigger hotels have to be located further out. The staff are great and friendly and there is an outdoor pool for the warmer months.
