Thanksgiving at Breck

10,000 feet, indoor living, and ESPN!

... 500ft. We were kinda looking forward to going and spending some time in Vail, which was the town right before we started that climb. We decided that we'd save that visit for another time, didn't want to put "Charlie" through that pain again....

We arrived in Copper Mountain Resort area around 1:30 and did a little walking around. We soon realized that this town ...

First Full Day! Mt. Evans

... for Mt. Evans, which is just over 14K feet, the 30-something highest in CO. We passed Bear Creek Lake Park and there were people at it at this tiny "beach" area, it was really funny. I think it was actually a resevoir or something, haha! Definitely no Gulf of Mexico that’s for sure! Driving around this area is so nice, its so naturally beautiful. Its scenery that I’ve never seen before …totally different than Florida and Michigan and ...

BOOK IT! The Vail Pass

... br>down we passed lakes, waterfalls and had the most gorgeous scenery of snow-capped mountains. The first 10 miles were on a paved path where there was no motor vehicle traffic. The last 8 were a combination of road & the Gore Creek Path. If you do not have a free shuttle or driver to the top you can set up a tour with Charter Sports for $45.

To add excitement to ...

BOOK IT! A Delightful Dining Experience

We spent the rest of the afternoon/evening exploring the shops in the Vail Village-which is an adorable German architecture looking resort town. We had dinner at Up The Creek
which is more of an "up-scale" restaurant. It was a little harder to find as it was set off of the main road directly on the creek.

I'm not the most adventuresome eater, so there were limited items on the ...

Spring Skiing and Lots of Snow

This year we skied for two weeks and both spring skiing and some good snow. We skied Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, and Arapahoe Basin. One day Peter and Ron took the day off and went fly fishing with a guide in Silverthorne. It was cold and they caught one fish but they still had a good time. Mike and Laurie joined us for a couple of days which was great!

First full day in Vail

... hard. Got pumbled by the snow! Went into an "underground" bar and had some drinks. Realy cool lounge with just leather couches everywhere. Finished our drinks and went back outside again. The snow stopped and it was BEAUTIFUL outside. The snow was stuck to the branches and the lights and it was the most amazing, incredible sight! We took a shuttle back to our side of the ...

Snowboarding at Beaver Creek

... Lara bought us all lift tickets and hired me modern skis and boots. The guys at the rental shop made fun of my ancient boots. Leigh and I skiied until 1.30 pm snowed all day, windy and cold +++ 10 degrees F which is 10 degrees C. Got a text message from Lara at 1.30 pm that she had booked us into the Spa at the Hyatt for a massage and was ...

So Fast Passes the Time

... this corporate giant and its economic effect on surrounding small businesses; yet, I how can deny the convenience it provides. But, I mustn't get on that soap box for I want to tell you of Avon. I love Avon. What a neat place. It started out as a tiny little hamlet at the base of the mountain that would be developed as Beaver Creek Ski Resort. Though I'm certain the original locals must have endured many years of construction nightmare, it is now a delightful mountain village ...
