... reindeer and huge mountains 600 million years old.... We arrived at Oksfjord at 3.45 and left after just 10 minutes. Later we visited Skjervoy and we looked out at dinner time to see the loading & unloading operations. Internet coverage up here is very spasmodic and I feel the size of this tome might preclude successful transmission so I will close now and start another then despatch both from possibly Bergen where Internet is likely to be better. ... morning apparently, on the staff accommodation deck. Not a bad deal for the budget traveller! There were four guys dressed in traditional German carpentry gear, on a working holiday together - we called them the 4 amigos - great fun guys!! Kirkenes was the 2nd worst bombed city in WW2. It was demolished by the Germans, and the townsfolk hid in basements and mining tunnels. The town was rescued by the Russians, thus the folks here still hate the Germans, and like the Russians. There is free commerce between the Russians and the Norwegians up here and the russian fisherman actually bring their catches to be sold in Norway, rather in Murmansk where they have to pay ...
