... cars. There were thousands of people lining the streets to watch the cars do laps around the city. We visited The Norman castle which dates back to the early 900s. It was amazing to see a structure almost completely in tact. Then we saw the St. Nicoli church which was one of the coolest so far. It was a medieval structure with a ceiling decorated with gold. As we were walking back, I heard a group of people chanting. Could it be a protest??? ...

We got to go into one trulli that had been inhabited by the same family since it was built. The rooms are small but very comfortable. Up early for breakfast and at the bike briefing by 8:30, where Marco, our guide from girolibero, introduced us and probably another 12-18 bikers to our tour and our bikes. People from all over - Germany, New Zealand, England, France and New Hampshire. We got all fitted for our bikes then went back to pack up before heading out by about10:30 from Matera.  Several early stops to do a bit more bike adjusting but by 5 km, we settled into ...

... streets on a Tuesday morning. Wandered into a church in the old quarter which for a change seemed quite light and airy compared to the gothic ones we have been to lately. The whitewashed houses in an arc looked lovely and it was nice wandering the small streets and alleyways. Could see why it is considered one of the prettiest small towns in Italy. Found one cafe open so enjoyed a true ...
