          ... our guide took us to see a stunning local glass and crystal display instead of another cathederal. We saw the Assumption Cathederal from the outside and walked about its garden to a viewpoint that provided an outlook over the valley and countryside that rols away from this vibrant city. A little further on we see another UNESCO acknowledged site ... the ornately carved walls of St Dmitry Cathederal dates back to the early 1100s and again we are in awe of the skill on display ...

          ... some newer apartment blocks which make the others look very drab. Suddenly our good progress slowed and came almost to a standstill. Eventually we came across roadworks that had taken a 7 lane motorway down to 3 lanes. Once past the road works we resumed good progress to Sergiev Posad where we would visit one of the most holy places in Russia and where Russians make a pilgrimage to show their faith and ask the monks to pray for them and their family.           We took a short detour off the M7 to visit Suzdal - described as a town bypassed by the 20th century. It's a lovely little town with lots of churches dotting the skyline. Lots of tree lined streets and not much sign of modernisation. It was very quiet and not very many people around. It was later in the day so I think the tour buses had been and gone.
