We took a short detour off the M7 to visit Suzdal - described as a town bypassed by the 20th century. It's a lovely little town with lots of churches dotting the skyline. Lots of tree lined streets and not much sign of modernisation. It was very quiet and not very many people around. It was later in the day so I think the tour buses had been and gone.

On the way to Suzdal we passed a complex ...

Tuesday the Golden Ring starts... The Golden Ring is a collection of towns, east of Moscow which are famous for being UnESCO recognised for the unique examples of architecture in these towns - all have buildings 12th century and on, all well restored or preserved so it's on to explore just three of these places. We say our farewells and won't miss anyone really. Our van is waiting, we wave good bye to the girls Victoria and Anastasia who have been great ambassadors for ...

On Thursday we took the 6:45am sapsan train from Moscow to Vladimir, a journey of 1hr and 45 minutes, from there we caught the local bus to Suzdal, a 35km trip which cost 72 roubles (less than€1). The local bus terminates at Suzdal bus station which is on the outskirts of town, but for a further 14roubles we were able to continue on that bus into town.

I arrived into Vladimir at about 10.30PM. Got chatting to an older Russian lady on the minibus from Vladimir station to my hostel, who was desperate to talk to me and assist me as she had had two English boys to stay the previous year and wanted to practice her English. She insisted on helping me find my hostel (even though the bus was going to stop a minute away from it, I had directions and it was only three more stops away). Not wanting to offend one of the only ...
