What If? Sorry for such a long hiatus. I have been traveling quite a bit for the last couple of weeks. After saying goodbye to friends in Beijing, Rachael and Jason (Stern) traveled to Xian, Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou (by accident) and then Shenzhen. For a better-written and almost complete description of our travels thus far, let me direct you to their blog postings. www.travelpod.com/members/rachaelb www.travelpod.com/members/jes242 I am currently in Hong Kong and will leave for...
Hong Kong, China amrosenHong Kong is my new favorite city. If I only had unimaginable amounts of money and time to take it all in, I might never leave. I wonder if their hiring? The skyscrapers are exceptionally unique and modern making the skyline one of the best in the world. And the shopping is legendary. The city of Hong Kong is located on Hong Kong Island just a short stretch from the mainland. The island is basically a huge hill with the city on the waterfront and high rises inching up the mountain side. There...
Hong Kong, China amwileyI've been in Hong Kong for four days and it has been quite an interesting experience! First of all, I decided to check myself into a hostel at a place called Mirador Mansion (Mirador is IT when it comes to budget accommodation in HK.) I am of the opinion that mansion in Hong Kong is another word for hell hole! Mirador is littered with randoms, many of whom are in the "gem business," however, it is multicultural (I give it that.) I decided to stay at the USA Hostel which was rated as being one...

Hong Kong, China lilaAnd here it is, where it all comes to an end, where you look back and your wonder what happend to the summer? What happened to the last 2 years of my life? How can I make sure I remember and learn from everything I have seen, everyone I have met? How do I not fall in that vicious cycle where you start working and all of a sudden you don't have time anymore to enjoy traveling to the most gorgeous parts of the world. Seeing, understanding, living cultures that are drastically different from any...
Hong Kong, China naxHong Kong was such a change from Beijing. For starters there was no chance of frostbite, which was always going to be a bonus. We got there late in the evening and stayed on Kowloon island. The building from the outside looked very scary - a multi-storey that looked very very run down. It wasn't much better till we actually got into the hostel itself which was on the 13 floor. It was a bit of a squeeze but fine for what we needed. Kowloon that time of night is crazy, shops are all open all ho...
