... Fukushima. Kameda Sensei's and Ara Sensei are the English and Music teachers at Jess's high school. They treated us to a magnificent spread. It was a degustation taste of about 11 dishes. They were all very tasty. They finished off with a sweet consisting of a pile of pancakes with cream cheese and Ice Cream and a chocolate sign saying Happy 40th Anniversary. It was a fabulous ...

We had a big day today. We set off about eight on the train to Fukushima. We planed to catch the Shinkansen from there to Sendai. Sadly the Shinkansen service was suspended, due to an incident, so we had to catch the slow train. That took about an hour and a quarter. We changed at Sendai for Matsushima, 3rd on the list of beautiful places in Japan. It is not far from were Jess had done her stint as a volunteer ...

Today was meet the colleagues day. Jess took us first to the Board of education, where we met her supervisor and read the radiation meter (that morning about .02 micro Sieverts per hour - you get more in Manhattan). It was also interesting to see the tow poor guys who sit in the office and represent TEPCO ( the nuclear plant owners). They are there to be the face of the company and cope any flack from the locals. Great job! We then drove to Jess's high school where we met ...

I set off for an early morning dip in the Onsen and was about to enter what had been the men's bathroom the night before when I noticed a pink curtain across the door. A quick revision of my Kanji indicated that overnight the men had become women. After looking around for the candid camera crew, I beat a hasty retreat to the door behind the blue curtain. Mum and Jess arrived a short time later and nearly freaked out thinking Dad ...

... bath in a garden setting, very relaxing. After our bath we dressed in Yukatta and went to a private dining room were we had a magnificent meal of about 11 dishes, starting with sushimi and working our way through soups, tasting plates, small cutlets, Mochica and strawberries ( and that's only what I can remember). As the Japanese say it was oishi (delicious) and a great introduction to our ...
