Sleeping Saurians and Endless Black Deserts

... the water feels much colder.

There follows a long section where the path traverses a desert of black volcanic rock and sand. It is fairly featureless and after a while a little boring. Occasionally however the black tedium is punctuated by jagged obsidian hills rising out of the plain, covered with lime-green moss, looking to me like the reptilian skin of a sleeping giant dragon, a slumbering saurian waiting to be roused. After a long steep descent I finally get down to the bottom and then its another hour's walk to the lake and the campsite. Exhausted after a day of eight hours walking, I put up the tent, eat some dinner, and go for a stroll along the lake shore during the golden hour. The sun lights up the green ridges surrounding the lake beautifully.

... on, but had some very fresh sign of what had to be Moose (worse than bear for wasting stupid tourists) and spent the rest of the trip wondering if this was (A) a reasonable plan or (B) ridiculous and arrogant, but were buoyed on by the fact that Davey Croquet did it. It was magic scenery and after making it to the lake edge to find the rest of the expedition we felt quite relieved and fully stoked!
