Guilin is such a picturesque town on the Li river with lots of tourist attractions, and is the gateway to Yangshou. The prices in the hotel we felt were excessive for food, drinks and simple things like business services. Nonetheless, the room was clean and comfortable and there were lots of nearby options for a good meal. We found The Little Italian Cafe which gave great service, lots of useful information and well priced food and drink - and best of all - fabulous coffee!

Hotel was part of our Wendy Wu tour package. Fine , as with all the hotels hard bed, but clean and comfortable room. Wifi in the lobby, safe in the room, 2 bottles of water each day decent buffet breakfast.

Today we were to arrive in Guilin, make our way to the Hotel Universal and explore Guilin.
There were a couple of things we hadn't factored in - the first was the typhoon that was lashing south east China - just where we were heading. The other was diarrhoea. Poor Ann had the most awful night and on this slow and rickety train …

... our room was clearly unwell as we both heard her throwing up in the toilet which was then followed by a massive squelchy **** - yuk!

We headed out to see what Gulin had to offer - we looked at the map in the Lonely Planet book and decided to head to 'Solitary Beauty Peak' which is basically a park with a peak in it which you can climb to the top of for great views over the city. In the end we didn't bother as it was £8 each to get in - £8 to get into a park with ...

... thing that happened was at 5am just this morning. We stayed up throughout the night chatting on the bank of the river minding our own business, when suddenly this one woman creeps us behind us and starts howling indescriminately. Genuinely, it sounded like a mating call. Now we assumed that this woman was deranged because she randomly just strips behind us and then dives into the river continuing to make her mating call noises. But ...
