Guilin is such a picturesque town on the Li river with lots of tourist attractions, and is the gateway to Yangshou. The prices in the hotel we felt were excessive for food, drinks and simple things like business services. Nonetheless, the room was clean and comfortable and there were lots of nearby options for a good meal. We found The Little Italian Cafe which gave great service, lots of useful information and well priced food and drink - and best of all - fabulous coffee!

Hotel was part of our Wendy Wu tour package. Fine , as with all the hotels hard bed, but clean and comfortable room. Wifi in the lobby, safe in the room, 2 bottles of water each day decent buffet breakfast.

... looked like it came straight out of the 80s! Hard to believe that the majority of the stuff we wear is made in this country – did they not take some hints???

We had lunch at a cafe by the river and wandered along looking at all the stalls. We came across a wee old Chinese man painting landscapes by the side of the road – beautifully detailed scenes all done on wall scrolls. Upon asking the ...

Day 2 in China and I signed up for a guided tour to the Longji Dragons Backbone Rice Terraces.
The weather was really good, about 24 degrees, and just a little hazy.
Also joining me on the tour was Alison from Australia, Patricia from Denmark, Carlos from Spain, and a german couple.
A lively group, the 3h bus drive up to the terraces felt like a breeze. One thing worth mentioning though: traffic in china is completely and utterly MENTAL! It is definately ...
