Guilin is such a picturesque town on the Li river with lots of tourist attractions, and is the gateway to Yangshou. The prices in the hotel we felt were excessive for food, drinks and simple things like business services. Nonetheless, the room was clean and comfortable and there were lots of nearby options for a good meal. We found The Little Italian Cafe which gave great service, lots of useful information and well priced food and drink - and best of all - fabulous coffee!

Hotel was part of our Wendy Wu tour package. Fine , as with all the hotels hard bed, but clean and comfortable room. Wifi in the lobby, safe in the room, 2 bottles of water each day decent buffet breakfast.

... 6th century AD, its hills were already inspiring poets. Under the Ming, it emerged as a provincial capital, a position lost in 1914 to Nanning. Guilin today is a tidy tourist city, with about ten parks enclosing some fine peaks and limestone caves. Guilin means "Osmanthus Forest" and has an avenue of these sweet scented trees along the riverside Binjiang Lu.

Moon Hill gives a very pretty (but surprisingly strenuous) climb up to a half-moon shaped hole in the hill with an excellent panorama of the surrounding landscape – a little hazy for good photos, though. In the half-moon itself, an international climbing competition was being held, which sort of ruined the peaceful atmosphere, but was quite ...
