Guilin is such a picturesque town on the Li river with lots of tourist attractions, and is the gateway to Yangshou. The prices in the hotel we felt were excessive for food, drinks and simple things like business services. Nonetheless, the room was clean and comfortable and there were lots of nearby options for a good meal. We found The Little Italian Cafe which gave great service, lots of useful information and well priced food and drink - and best of all - fabulous coffee!

Hotel was part of our Wendy Wu tour package. Fine , as with all the hotels hard bed, but clean and comfortable room. Wifi in the lobby, safe in the room, 2 bottles of water each day decent buffet breakfast.

... went to the hostel restaurant for the best hamburger I've ever bought in a youth hostel. Caught up on E-mails, worked on this blog, added the Chinese spelling of "Yizhou" to my phone photo files so I can show it to the ticket people at the Guilin bus station when I get there tomorrow. I also added phone numbers of youth hostels in the area. I didn't need them.

... to the Dragon Bridge which is a 600 year old bridge crossing the very quiet Yulong river. We took in the sights and watched the few locals going about their day either farming in the rice paddies nearby, feeding their children, or washing their clothes in the river. We both agreed what a lovely peaceful place this was, we both really liked it.

We were then shown to our little bamboo rafts which this time were the real thing! Just us two to a raft, off we went ...
