... though he clarified in English for me once or twice), to book into the hotel, and to manage through the rest of the day. We even dared to hit the road again and made our way to a McDonalds (first fast food in a long time) and I'm sure I broke at least a couple driving rules as we got turned around then back on track as we wound our way to the hotel. Without Sally navigating, I'm sure I would still be stuck somewhere in Nice.

... and who should I run into but Stephen wandering not knowing where he was. I gave him directions back to the hotel and continuted shopping. He reckons I have no sense of direction Ha Ha.

After all of this we went to dinner. It was an italian restaurant (there are many in this part of the country) as we are close to Italy. We had a lovely meal and finished with limencillo.

Home again - TOMORROW LONDON. I can speak the language here.

Jackie was unaware of the seafront location and, being a nervous flyer and having read far too many MH370 conspiracy stories, was genuinely convinced that a rogue pilot was condemning us all to a watery grave. It was only later when I learned that she would have benefited from being informed of the airport's beach location. Well she knows now!

So we made it off the plane, safely but still in slight pain, all ready to start our Nišoise ...

Next stop Column - very high and the carvings all around the spiral to the top told the story of how things were done in Roman days - eg how battles were fought, how rivers were crossed.
