... my first bald eagle in the wild! Way cool.

I also saw some Elk but they were in a fenced area as some kind of reserve. It's just not the same as when you see them in the wild. I ended up stopping near where 138 crosses I-5 because prospects for lodging looked weak closer to Crater Lake.

Tomorrow I will check out Crater Lake and then head southwest to 101 just south of the Califinia border.

... were narrow with no shoulder or GUARDRAILS!!!!!!!! I am not kidding I was screaming. And we had a two hour tour on these roads!!!!!! I survived. The tour was not so scary,but I do not want to drive that road again. We went out the south entrance, not quite so bad.
Photos will tell a lot of the area. This lake was formed by an erupting volcano that collapsed on itself to form a floor for the lake. It filled with snow ...

... Rogue River and climbing up to where the road is a narrow green corridor cut through a thick forest of tall pine trees and you can almost reach out and touch the trees, they are so close to the road. Traffic was non-existent and we felt very much alone in an unfamiliar yet serene land. And we began to notice patches of dirty snow along the roadside where the sun seldom shines.

... so I sound like I’m far brighter and informed than I actually am...) ...which at my best guess is Scotch Broom...and is everywhere. With the deep green evergreen background and the bright yellow flowers, it is easy to see whee the colors for Oregon State originated.
So...we wandered this country road and stopped by a country bakery...Lighthouse Bakery... where I picked up some pumpkin seeds and some kind of delicious, yet, ...
