... I learned from Tun, one of our guides, that only males have long tusks, which require an oil to maintain, and the oil also includes a hormone which makes them territorial. If a mahout wants his female elephant to become pregnant, he usually has to find a wild male elephant (they live in the jungles around Umphang), and allow his female to go free for a few days, then collect her again. I'm not exactly sure how this is ever successful, considering it is already difficult ...

... second one followed to my other foot. They were warm and soft and the first one started pounding on my shin... chicken. It was hot and the air is bad. Smog of the cars as well as of the fires lit by local villagers around their settlements to prevent bigger fires during the upcoming hot season. I fell asleep.
