the bus to alanya

... to Alanya, I opted to take the coach this time instead of hitch hiking. I got into the station at 6:30 and then took a city bus to get closer to the beach. I think I was pretty much in the wrong neighbourhood for cheap hotels but was able to negotiate a room down from 50 to 30 TL. The apartment had a living room, kitchen, dining area and bedroom!

Now for a walk-about town for the evening...

From Silifke to Alanya

... our stomachs started to make themselves an issue. (By the way, we saw a Famin hotel yesterday, one we had expected in the north of Ethiopia). Fortunately we were in the Banana capital of Turkey at that moment, Bent Yellow galore. That put off the hunger pangs. The town is even named after the monkey's favourite, Musakent. Musa being the genus name of all banana like plants, Muz being Turkish for Banana. Some 40 kilometers further we reached Gazipasha, but the ...

... she took in. She has a shopping bag from a boutique displaying that she has put her time to good use and is not simply downtown to meet him. He appears to have nothing better to do then meet her for drinks and has probably been waiting all day for this little bit of company. She gossips coarsely about the locals they both know. He laughs as if he was thinking of something else, or maybe he had heard the stories before. The four of us are the only ones at the café. They tell us ...

... were huge drops on these narrow parts where they had piled up sand to do the road at a later date. Damo's expert driving got us through and once we arrived in Alanya it was off for some drinks (only 2 each as $8 for a beer) before crashing at 2am. As it is really just a drinking place we didn't take any photos of Alanya. Alanya is a haven for Germans and Scandinavians ...

Heaven is a Tree House.

... Kelly and I went to Chimaera which are world famous for their burning rocks or eternal flames. It was a pretty decent hike of about nine miles up the mountain to find these sacred flames. Along the way we witnessed the results of another one of natures wonders. The storm that we rode out in Kas had been very ******* Olympos. Everywhere we would pass had HUGE trees down. Smashed buildings and blown down structures were seen in almost every yard or camp. I really think that a tornado ...

... We were able to even toast marshmallows over the flames. Everyone was jealous of our marshmallows as you can't get them in Turkey....our guide got them in Greece on her way. We have travelled down along a small section of the west coast before heading inland to a place called Pamukkale. An area of salt pools with thermal water running through them. After driving down to Oludeniz where we camped for 2 nights straight after a huge downpour where our ...
