... playing a familiar tune, I look over and the head chef comes out and starts singing happy birthday with the harp player THEN all the other people staying and working at the hotel joined in all singing happy birthday to me. They then presented me with a hand made ornament and wished me another happy birthday. I got up and bowed to all the staff thanking all of them. They then played me the hotels traditional song once again with the head chef and harp player. As ...

... pm and made the decision to head back to Nagano to find some dinner. Our timing meant that we caught the local train rather than the express which stopped at every station and got a bit tedious. We ventured out into the the morning 5* sunshine to find something to line our tummies. There were lots of eating places last night around the train station so we headed back that way. There were lots of choices but quite popular was a small cafe which had ham and egg toasted sandwiches, tea and coffee. We grabbed one of those which ...

We woke this morning to more snow, big fluffy flakes pouring down. Breakfast this morning was a plethora of small dishes delicately placed on our table. Vegetables were steamed with the onsen spring water in front of us while we blanched mushroom, spinach and pork in a broth on our table. Miso, pickled vegetables, partly cooked egg, tofu, seared salmon were just some of the other items we had. After breakfast we headed off to the famous onsen here. There is nothing ...
