... hard to find affordable nice accommodation where we wanted to base ourselves.. First stop Bastia, after a very long ferry ride of four hours, we sailed into Bastia. I must admit to feeling slightly disappointed, as it looked like just another Mediterranean town, that had slightly seen better days perhaps.

Our immediate impressions of Bastia are positive: a ‘slightly ragged round the edges’ seaside city with large open spaces and waving palms: even the temperature is perfect at 25°. Not so perfect is our accommodation situation: although booked just a couple of days ago, the sea-side ‘room with a view’ Posta-Vecchia is over-booked, and we have been rebooked to a bland and boring Best Western ...
... we followed the small (they have started even if they have not yet finished) twisty route. The rocks pushed up and over each other like endless layers of puff pastry, sometimes with a vein of different rock running through it like a fashionable stripe.
Above us, more often than not, we could see eagles above us, floating in a serene holding pattern in that seemingly effortless way they have.

The result was that there were about four different lines of cars, and no one knew which one they were being told to join,
One 2CV van (with very Laura Ashley curtains) made a last minute change of line with the result that it ended up across at least two lines. Chaos.
However, we did as we were told and then walked up an unexpected number of stairs before we reached a deck which suggested it might serve coffee and snacks.

Notre aventure s'est terminée dans un charmant restaurant face à la mère.
Somme toute, nous avons grandement apprécié ce tour de la Corse. Ce qui est le plus difficile est de s'adapter aux horaires de vie de la région. Des commerces qui ferment de midi à 15:00, ce n'est pas toujours évident.
Il nous reste une journée à Paris, puis ce sera le retour au quotidien. ...
