... were beautiful. It’s where Maria and the children out of The Sound of Music sing Do-Re-Mi. We were in a rush though because we had to get back to the staion to catch our train to Zurich, Switzerland in 25minutes. That was a mad rush. About 4 and half hours later, we arrived into Zurich. It’s not what we expected at all. We’re going to leave here early tomorrow because hopefully Chur will be nicer.

... Hohensalzburg. I believe that most of these castles were built by people who made their money from the salt mines. I first went into the Cathedral which is large and quite impressive - was most impressed with the unusual carved wooden ends to all the pews. ... the heavier German food which is heavy-handed and more stodgy. I have noticed that a lot of Germans are over-weight but in this area particularly there are some fitness fanatics who cycle and hike and are amazingly fit without an ounce of fat. Oddly, today our hotel was closed and after one girl prepared breakfast for us and made the beds there was nobody here and we had to use our room key to get in and out of the front door - very strange. ... over several centuries beginning around 1047. I have to confess that while it was kind of cool to be wandering around in this old fortress. My favourite part was sitting in a restaurant, having dinner, with a stunning view of Salzburg laid out below me. That's it for Salzburg. ... visual images of Salzburg in my head even though I am typing these words on Jan 17th and much has been seen and experienced since we were there.

The fireworks were an unexpected pleasure for all of us. The kids were in a frenzy of enjoyment and despite Fi and I being somewhat concerned we stepped back and let them have fun. Of course we monitored things and occasionally had to warn them to step back a bit but on the whole they were pretty careful about it all.
