Ty Gwyn Trelew

... in a Welsh tea house, feasting on cakes whilst listening to Welsh folk music. The owner was the granddaughter of the first Welsh settler born in Argentina. My next destination is back across the country to Esquel in the Argentinian lake district. However, the last two buses heading there have been cancelled because of heavy snowfall on the gravel roads. This means that unfortunately I may be spending more time in Trelew. On the plus side, I get to more time to brush up on my Welsh.

... me. By the way, is this place sounding weird to you yet? Multitudes of dinosaur fossils, extinct Welsh immigrants, excessive ham, whale, sea lion, and penguin colonies, and crazy strong winds.. I forgot to mention the wind down here. Skinny folks could easily get blown off a cliff, and it´s only going to get stronger the further south we go. Good excuse for me to keep eating all these good pastries. Seems like we only came here for the dinosaur bones

The longest trip yet awaits us today...20 hours bus ride from Trelew to Buenos Aires. Its over 1,500 kilometres, and although the roads are paved they are slow with lorries, etc. The bus is "semi-bed" which is quite comfortable and we have organised ourselves with sleeping bags, food, etc... ... gekomen zijn, wij gaan naar de Orca´s! Langzaam wordt duidelijk dat het geen walvissen maand is, dus die zien we in iedergeval niet. Jammer, ok de Orca´s dan. Bovendien veel gevaarlijker, de walvis is een veganist puur sang en houdt het enkel bij het naar binnen slurpen van wat plankton. Een Orca kan met een spectaculaire duik richting strand in een keer een gehele zeeleeuw van wel 3 meter naar binnen werken, en dat willen we zien ...

... en anders pas weer 4 dagen later. Tsja, en toen hadden we een probleempje, want om nou 4 dagen in zo´n gat te zitten, dat zagen we toch echt niet zitten. En na 2 dagen waren we hier echt wel uitgewandeld, zo fanatiek zijn we ook weer niet, ahum.. De volgende ochtend stonden we (zonder ook maar één wandeling gemaakt te hebben, erg!!) om 5u15 op de bus te wachten richting Piedra Bueno. Een plaatsje dat niet eens op de kaart ...

Chubut capitalFrom the beach we travelled slightly inland to Rawson and Trelew, two well groomed small cities less than 20 kilometers apart. Rawson being the capital of the province Chubut, with all the government buildings, while Trelew is more of a commercial center. ... hanging around the road as we drove past! The dinosaur museum back in Trelew was pretty cool, it was made up of original dinosaur bones on display, some had been placed to show what the dinosaur would have looked like and others just left as they were found. These bones were from all over Argentina and they had a great variety on display, was really cool and some were massive too! All in all it was a quality 26 hours spent in this section of Argentina!

... days have been absolutely wonderful! We have been here just over a week now and I have to admit that it does feel like sooo much longer as we have seen so much and have traveled so far. Yet this is only the beginning!! I can´t wait for the next leg of our journey....to the end of the world!!!! We are on a bus to Ushuaia this afternoon...well, actually to a place called Rio Gallegos, then hopefully right onto another bus to Ushuaia!! Will update next time I get the chance....see you soon!!

... by the time we get back to Gaiman. There are a few old buildings in town and some chapel buildings but we are really here for our long awaited Welsh tea. We opt for Ty Nain on the main plaza.
