I had to wake up very early to catch the mini-van from Georgetown to The Cameron Highlands, we left my hostel in Georgetown and arrived in the Cameron Highlands just after midday. The Cameron Highlands are about 1500m above sea level, and as a result the climate is more like a summers day in Britian (it always rains in the afternoon) than the rest of Malaysia. 1st March 2003: Woke late for me, about 11, then phoned home to let them know I have moved on 2 different countries last contact. After lunch we went on a wild goose chase, looking for this Park - Lake Gardens Park which under the orienteering genius of Stephen 'Edmund Hillary' Sahdev took us about an hour to find in the sweltering heat, which is made 10 times worse from the cities pollution, and the intense humidity. Well we thought the local bus in KL was bad, we hadn't seen anything! We got the bus to the Cameron Highlands yesterday and that was another suicidal trip. We had to change buses half way as the brakes broke and so we wouldn't have got up the hills in the Highlands if we had managed to live to get anywhere at all! But the new bus had broken air con so we had to go to a shack for it to be fixed and sit on the sweltering bus while 3 men were inside the engine trying to fix the problem. Then we ...

Well, this turned into an eventful little trip! We booked a bus from KL to Tanah Rata in the heart of the Cameron Highlands and set off OK. It soon became apparent that the bus had a bit of a problem as we left KL and it was really noisy and chugging up hill at about 30mph with everything else whizzing past us, anyhow we continued and the noise increased! We began to doubt whether we'd make it by 7pm as expected. Ha ha - sure enough the bus chugged it's last about 6pm on a stretch of motorway...

Thailand has come to an end and we are now in Malaysia. We had an amazing time in Thailand, and the last stop in TonSai, Krabi was the best ever. It was really the ideal backpackers, relaxed location, where time just stops and you don't even think about it. But unfortunately we had to move on.
