We caught the train ok to Zagreb from Vienna, it was going to be an eight hour trip with a stop mid-way to change trains for the second leg. The first half was Austrian railways and it was first class all the way with great seats and waiter service. Once we changed to Croatian rail it was a little different, although we were 1st class we were put in a second class carriage (you can tell because it has a "2" but we were told it was 1st class - it wasn't. ...

As I booked this tour not long ago, all the rooms in the farmhouse are taken, so I have been accommodated in a lovely house, all to myself, 50 metres up the lane. Drove from Vienna to Sopron in Hungry to have our 20th wedding anniversary lunch of a salad roll and takeaway coffee in our warm car. Then drove through the eastern end of Slovenia into northern Croatia. First time we've been in four countries in one day.we noticed a big variation between countryside and house styles from one Country to another. Stopped at Varazdin for the night and walked that evening in the light rain around this mystical historic town. Quite romantic ...

On Wednesday we walked over to the train station to see how much trouble it would be to take a train to Ljubljana. The guy at the station was super friendly and helpful (as per usual it seems in Slovenia) - so I may venture off there at some point. We continued our walk by visiting the local cathedral again and had a coffee at a lovely cafe. In the afternoon we walked from Ljutomer to my sisters house in Gresovčak (about an hours walk) and took ...

      Last full day in Varazdin

      Tuesday
      Last full day in Varazdin
The forecast was threatening so we had
saved up our galleries and museums for today. It was fine starting
out so we went to the bus station to get tickets for tomorrow first.
We are finding that quite a few of the bus times listed on the
internet schedules don't actually exist when you turn up so getting
tickets in advance will hopefully avoid any last minute nasty
      surprises.
      The local cemetery here ...
