... we enjoyed a remarkable sangria that had chocolate undertones, silky on the tongue and the best we've had so far. When we asked about the wine, we were told it was their house wine. No more identification than that, but it was really good. We are now lying on the couches in the condo, appreciating the wonderful day we experienced, the fresh seafood and the amazing sangria. Portugal really has a lot to offer the ...

... relaxing lunch with a liter of sangria at a sidewalk café. I had grilled sea b************** fish, head and all--and it was the best I've ever tasted! Check the pictures and you'll see we look much better ...

After our less than peaceful night at Sagres, we were keen to head on to Lagos, which seemed more like the Algarve proper. It wasn't far - only about 15 miles - and we headed off early with a reasonable wind to allow us to sail along happily. One thing we very much like about this new coast is the total lack of swell and waves in general; even with the wind hitting 20 knots as we headed east, the coast on our port side sheltered us from the ...

    Another coast down!

This was the day we hadn't been looking forward to. It was about 65 miles from Sines to Sagres, potentially a 13 hour sail, and the bottom corner, Cabo São Vincente, tends to produce some high winds and rough seas, so we had to stay 2 miles off as we went round.

The swell was also higher than the day before, meaning a less comfortable journey. But it had to be done, so we rose before it was light and set off as soon as ...
