After arriving in Ubud, we were greeted by several people that tried to talk us into coming to their hotel/home stay. Although we usually try to avoid these people, we really had no plans on where to stay in Ubud, so we spoke with one persistent man. He had a home stay about 300 meters away with rooms being offered at 80,000 and 100,000 Rp a night. We told him we were looking for a cheaper room and he lowered his offer to 70,000 Rp including breakfast. This was an attractive enough offer to g...

Ubud, Indonesia mchavezHappy Nyepi 1930! Ubudissa meilla oli ilo viettaa kolmatta uutta vuotta tan vuoden puolella. Hindu uus vuos Nyepi sattu Balilla just samaan aikaan. Me mentiin siis Sanuriin saavuttaessa buukkaamaan bussiliput saman tien Ubudiin.
Ubud, Indonesia norsu
... describe it – it's
like nothing we have ever tasted before so there's nothing we can
compare it to. The texture is weird: mushy and stringy kind of like
fermented custard. It was good to try but it's got to be an acquired
taste. Luckily, Adrien who ate with us, loved it so it wasn't
wasted.
Today we went on a bike ride in the
countryside starting from Gunung Batur a mountain that is regarded as
a holy site to the Balinese people ...
... regular cold pool with a sauna and steam room at our disposition for half a day. The reason why this isn't very regular is because of it being built into a grotto full of Hindu-inspired sculptures, hibiscus plants, and a view of the river rushing below us in the canyon. This whole atmosphere mixed in with incense put every part of my mind and body at ease. It also made me fall in love with Balinese architecture even more as people here seem to take nature into so much ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia izunia... where I sat by the side of the road having another break. Some girls working in a shop over the road from me kept shouting 'Hello' and then hiding behind their produce - I could hear them giggling! I went down this random dirt track on my bike, hoping to find a good view of the rice terraces. However, there was nothing down there so I cycled further into Tegallalang past endless rows of wood carving shops- wood carvers sat outside their ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia cereal42... It seems to be working with numerous board shops and clothing outfitters populating a large chunk of retail space. Girls, if you are looking for a place with thousands of aussie surfer dudes, well this is it. I have jumped a bit ahead of myself so I will have to back track a tad. Before I left Thailand, I was hanging out with this girl named "im" and we got to liking each other and had a great time together and leaving was a bit of a ***** truth ...
Kuta, Indonesia nealinthailand... the hundreds of pounds of excavation work, done over the summer hols) No, that's not it... Most of the floor is dry and oh! There! The sink beside my desk is dribbling from it's attachment, so unattractive in the morning. Anyway, I decide there is only one answer... Call Mr. Ketut! So a short dialing later... 'Mr. Ketut! Mr. Ketut! Come and fix my sink please!' 'Oh well' I think, 'no worries, today is still a bloody good day!' I trot off to collect a box of ...
Umalas, Indonesia ifanabroad... gasification plant (which is about as cutting edge as you can get and expensive!!). The idea is to create a self-sustaining school community which will serve as a model for the rest of the world as well as to provide alternative education for ex-pats and local Indonesian kids. So I get a tour of the place...it is truly incredible...although I do have some reservations about the elitism of this type of private education. I meet the mastermind ...
Ubud, Indonesia cb_goes_again... headwraps or flowers in their hair. The manifestations of worship are evident everywhere. Statues of gods and goddesses lounge under trees or fiercely guard entrances to temples to scare away evil spirits. They coil and twist through the trees, outward manifestations of all our hopes and fears. At an internet café in Kuta, I paused from my messaging on facebook to watch a girl standing before an altar on the wall, made like a chair for ...
