After arriving in Ubud, we were greeted by several people that tried to talk us into coming to their hotel/home stay. Although we usually try to avoid these people, we really had no plans on where to stay in Ubud, so we spoke with one persistent man. He had a home stay about 300 meters away with rooms being offered at 80,000 and 100,000 Rp a night. We told him we were looking for a cheaper room and he lowered his offer to 70,000 Rp including breakfast. This was an attractive enough offer to g...

Me mentiin siis Sanuriin saavuttaessa buukkaamaan bussiliput saman tien Ubudiin.

... He had designated himself as our tour guide. He lead us through an amazing rice paddie and took a few good pictures, Kate really wasn’t enjoying it though because she knew he was after our money and was fed up of the way that people decieve you to get it. So we reluctantly went along with it. We got to the river and decided to turn back. This seemed to dent his plans somewhat as he had been using his phone to arange for his friend to taxi us back at a price, but ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia kateandlindsay... and luxurious hotels lining the streets, the mid-range and budget guesthouses were all small bungalows enclosed in courtyards and seemingly ran by the owners and residents of the premises. The first place that we chose seemed unassuming from the front, but when we were led back to the bungalow we discovered two things: roosters (ie 6 a.m. wake up call) and a very dank bedroom which smelled of mildew and urine. Needless to say, we moved on. The next guesthouse boasted a more ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia seasiabound... drove into a tiny village where the local children were fascinated with us. Girls giggled at seeing handsome Mike and the boys all wanted to give us high-fives while yelling out the little English that they knew. After eating some ice-cream and getting and idea of where we were, we figured that getting lost really isn't so bad on this island. By getting lost I feel as though I found the purest form of Balinese culture - which is that of kindness and inclusion. In Thailand the people ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia izunia... where we can live in a bungalow for 2 quid a night, eat fresh fish, snorkel & relax. First night - we decide to go for a walk & end up in the pitch black woods on the island., walking through mud, then we are chased by a cow, with Zain screaming like he is being killed. Hilarious! We went snorkeling with a local we have named Monkey Feet. For 4 hours we check out the great marine life & watch monkey feet spear fish. We also swam with our first ...
Kuta, Indonesia newmansinasia... so cleanly that I decided to save them to send back home. I know they don't stand a chance of growing outside in Canada, but I think it will be cool if I manage to grow them in some type of indoor environment. Although we have been traveling around Indonesia for over a month now, I have only seen this fruit once so I suspect not many people back home have heard of it (mind you, we eat out every day and don't go to grocery stores much.) Although when we first arrived ...
Padangbai, Bali, Indonesia aaronpolarbear... It was really great to witness Balinese worship and to see one of their very scared temples, especially as it is SUCH an important part of their lives. The temples are very beautiful, with lots of carvings and offerings in the form of food, flowers and incense. This particular temple, being set on a holy spring, has a pool for bathers, which was also heaving, like a swimming pool and also a number of fountains with water representing different occasions on each one ie ...
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia becpowellHi Everyone In our final month of travelling now and we are in Bali. We both really rate this place, the beaches are awesome, the weather is great, it is pretty cheap and there are WAVES!!! We arrive about two weeks ago and decided to stay in a place just outside of the booming party place Kuta. We were in the next place on called Seminyak. The hotel we stayed in was so nice and cheap, but a bit more luxury than we are use to, it has a swimming pool and TV. It is ...
Bali, Indonesia chris.sandra08... the 1st century AD. The name Balidwipa has been discovered from various inscriptions, including the Blanjong charter issued by Sri Kesari Warmadewa in 913 AD and mentioning Walidwipa. It was during this time that the complex irrigation system subak was developed to grow rice. Some religious and cultural traditions still in existence today can be traced back to this period. The Hindu Majapahit Empire (1293-1520 AD) on eastern Java founded ...
