I got up early and set off with my map to walk around the heritage town of Pinang, what a shithole. There is hardly anything worth seeing here, a couple of monuments and clock towers etc. zzzzzzzzz. I ditched the trekking around in the soaring heat and decided to organise my next move to KL, this being the first time i have pre booked anywhere ! So far i have just rocked up and taken my chances. I went out for dinner fairly early after finding out the buses to KL leave from 08:00 onwards, i w...

... thats right Gerri Haliwell, move over cause the real ginger is taking her rightful place (actually did she get sacked anyway?...Prob cause she was a dye job...).

Anyway, we would have happily stayed in Malaysia had it not been for the sea being too choppy for a delicate flower like myself, almost perfect but not quite so onwards on our quest for perfection...we all have our crosses to bear.

Penang, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia vagabondbaby... stops along the way, but unfortunately only one of these was for our benefit the rest were to pick up or drop people off and on one occasion the driver even dropped a parcel off. (DHL). We had to change buses again before we crossed the border and we were told that the town we were in was bombed last year by terrorists. Just what we wanted to hear. There wasn't any problems and within 40 minutes we were at the border. The border between Thailand and Malaysia is over ...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia shunny81... go and do the job but he insists it is his weekend and that as he is with us he doesn't want to...this makes us even more surprised when he asks for 300,000 rupiahs after much deliberating at the airport. 300,000?? Is he serious?! Thats the same as we paid for a 5 hour journey to Medan the other day with him and we could have booked a room for a night for a third of the cost!! Carolyn and I head over to the cashpoint at the garage and discuss what we are ...

Swathi decides to change the direction of the taxi mid flow and also decides that I will be sharing a room with them, erm, O.K. I am ...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia john.boyd.123... temple, however on our way to book our ferry tickets to Langkawi, wee stumbled upon the ‘ Goddess of Mercy’ emple in Chinatown. It was a hive of activity with hundreds of Chinese worshipping their idols, whilst lighting incense candles. We asked a local what was going on and he replied that “ today was a very special day” we couldn’t get him to elaborate and every time we asked someone … why it was so special? They gave the same answer “Todays ...
Georgetown, Pinang, Malaysia shelleyandsimmoMalaysia, Penang, 15-02-2009. Little India is a Hindu enclave smack in the middle of Goergetown just off Lebuh Chulia, it is an inviting place to stroll around, especially so if you have been to India before!!! Hindu music blaring out of the many Bollywood video stores will greet your backpacker`s ears well before you enter this typical Indian neighborhood, chai shops with over-sweetened Indian tea which in India is called ...
pinang, Malaysia farang020... Told me all about Penang laksa, a noodle dish he insisted I try in Penang. We shared a few laughs about white guys eating durian, then he got off at Ipoh. Wandering_man had forgotten how beautiful central Malaysia was. The area 20 kilometers south of Ipoh to 20 Kilometers north of Ipoh are framed by stunning karst mountains, rock outcroppings that just seem to burst through the valley and tower over the ...

The jetties are like little communities - both sides flanked by shops, houses and places of worship. We visited the House of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. He organised the Chinese revolution from that very house in Penang. Our tour guide produced a movie about him a few years ago and sat us down to watch 15 minute ...
