Really Good

This is a great 3 star hotel. Newly renovated, the rooms are very large and the bathrooms well appointed. The location is great for the price and only about 7 minutes walk from the old town square and the breakfast is top notch. All in all very hard to fault - although do try to get a room on the side of the hotel not overlooking the busy flyover.

I would definitely stay here again and strongly recommend this hotel.

December, Tulip Inn

Got back from weekend in Prague (4-6th Dec) yesterday and thought I'd post here, because I've found previous posts helpful. It was our first visit to Prague so had no idea what to expect, but had a great time. We got our hotel to send a car to pick us up from the airport and were glad we did - the taxi rank looked like chaos, and the last thing we wanted to do was figure out the bus or trains. Took about 20mins and cost 650 (about £15), well worth it. We stayed at the Tulip Inn Prague Terminus and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is newly renovated and spotless. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room was lovely. Good size, comfy beds, nice bathroom. Only slight downer was grim view of ringroad flyover and train station, but they're hidden by thick net curtains - and who spends all day looking out of the window anyway? Also, the immediate area isn't great but always felt safe even late at night. Really wasn't an issue.

Walking from the hotel to Old Town Square takes around 10mins. We wanted to check out the Xmas markets but were a bit disappointed. We have a European Xmas market every year here in Manchester and to be honest, the Manchester one is better. There's more variety here and better quality. There were lots of people browsing in Prague, but nobody buying - it's really just tourist tat, and not much variety. Good atmosphere though, but don't expect to do the Xmas shopping there. We were also a bit disappointed by the prices over there. Beer is cheap, but not much else is. We did have a couple of cheapish meals but you have to go off the beaten track a bit. It's not that everything else is expensive, it's just the same as home.

Prague itself though is beautiful. We shot 5 rolls of film! You spend the entire first day just gawping at the amazing architecture. It's also quite compact. We didn't use the tram or metro once, as everything is walkable. It's a great city for just wandering around, but your feet and ankles might take a battering due to the cobbles if you're not up to walking much - ladies, forget heels. Also, take a hat - the winter winds mean your ears will never be the same again. Will certainly go back again sometime soon.

Must see - stop at the luxurious deco Municipal House cafe for a hot chocolate and a cake; set aside at least half a day for the castle and grounds; some nice bars and restaurants just on the other side of Charles Bridge; museum of medievil torture (great for kids!); museum of ---- machines (a bit like torture museum! Brilliant).

Give it a miss - astronomical clock (nice, but not worth the rugby scrum every hour); Xmas markets (save your pennies).

Staff just there for the wages

stayed this hotel for 2 nights thisweekend,hotel is of good decor and clean fresh and of a high standard, i would like to add that onarrival i was told barman was sick and that no barwasavailable on the first night ,which meant that i had to walka bit in pouring rain to geta drink and a meal as they do not have a reasturant,breakfast is very good and hot ,but staff if you have a complaint seem to be dont give a ----- and hard luck mentallity,

all in all clean fresh hotel but you better hope nothing goes wrong as the staff just turn up to get payed

Pluses and Minuses Add Up to Mediocrity

My first time in Prague and I stayed at the Tulip Inn Terminus for 3 nights from Sep 19 thru Sep 22, 2004. Perhaps my expectations were high due to the glowing reviews I had read here, but this hotel is mediocre at best.

First the location. It's at most a 15 minute walk to the center to Stare Mesto and from there you can East to the Charles Bridge, North to the Jewish section and south to Wenceslaus Square and Nove Mesto. However, the hotel is situated right by a freeway onramp and right underneath the freeway and the noise was quite annoying.

The rooms itself had appointments that were OK, however, there were a few things missing that were on the negative side. There was only a desk and a chair plus the bed and that was it. They did not even provide facial tissue (Kleenex) in the bathroom. Though the bathroom had a bathtub, the glass enclosure only went half way across the tub and so when taking a shower, it was hard not to get part of the floor soaked. There was soap provided but no shampoo. There was supposedly a high-speed internet access but I could never get it to work with my laptop. The reception blamed it on my laptop, though I have used it in many places worldwide with no problem. The same laptop worked alter on in the week in Berlin.

The breakfast provided with the room was good. It has some hot items like scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, but the bacon was half-cooked, though I'm not sure if this is the way they cook bacon locally. The OJ must have been from a mix.

In short, for every plus there was an opposite and almost equal minus and though I probably would stay at this hotel again, it's just not what it's cracked up to be and I would probably want to try another hotel if and when I go back to Prague.

Absolutely Fantasic!

My best friend and I have just returned from a 4 day break at the tulip inn. Desperate to just kick back and relax we found this was the perfect place to do so. With incredibly friendly staff and very spaceous rooms there was nothing to complain about. The hotels its self is very near (2mins away) all major transport links - metro, bus, train. And with a 5-10 min walk into the old town the location is excellent. More importantly as two 21 yr old girls we both felt very safe to walk back from the old town in the early hours of the morning. Overall, superb value for money and we are definately hoping to return.

Friendly, modern with good transport links

The hotel has just been modernised and our room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and good bathroom. The air conditioning was a bit noisy. The hotel is in a rather scruffy part of Prague, but we felt quite safe returning after dark. It is next to the Wilsonova flyover. The soundproofing keeps out traffic noise but not sirens. The staff are friendly and speak excellent english. Don't necessarily expect a room with a view, ours was just below ground level, so all we could see were the legs of people passing by and the flyover. Didn't worry us because we were out in Prague for most of the time.Transport is good, with a tramstop just behind the hotel and another, serving different routes, outside the local station. Metro stations serving two lines are about 5 minutes walk away. Both are an excellent way of seeing Prague but are not easy if you have difficulty climbing steps. Buy a "Transfer Ticket" (3 or 7 day), time stamp it on first use, put it away and you will not need it again for trams or metro, other than to show an inspector. We bought ours at the information office on Na Prikope.Restaurants recommende by our taxi driver (-----------------------------), which we found to be good: Kolkovna (------------), Tulip Cafe (Opatovicka 3), there's a good patio at the back, Stoleti (-------------) and U Ciriny (Navratilova 6).

Loved the Tulip

Just come back from the short stay at the Tulip Inn, Prague. The hotel's location belies what is really a very nice hotel. We were a little concerned when we saw its location, directly under a flyover. But the soundproofing was wonderful. the quality of the rooms was excellent, the breakfast, although not mouthwatering was substantial. More importantly, however, all sites were within walking distance. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would definitiely go back there.

Pleasant Hotel on Fringe of Tourist Area

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Tulip Inn. The hotel is quirky. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. But there are no tissues in the bathrooms and the complimentary teas and coffee come with sugar but no cream. The breakfast buffet had a nice assortment of hot and cold items. There is a nice little convenience store next door to purchase bottled water, sodas & snacks without having to pay the mini-bar rates. The hotel's location is good if you like to walk and can walk without assistance. It is not a good place for the elderly unless you are willing to take taxis. My mother had to meet us at various pre-arranged tourist spots as it is difficult for her to walk.

The hotel has a pre-arranged taxi service but the prices are double from what you'd pay if you just hail a taxi outdoors. (Make sure you set the taxi fare in advance ccause the Prague taxi drivers are notorious scoundrels.) Over all, you get a clean & spacious room with good & friendly service but it is not in the heart of the tourist area and the hotel is not for those of you who need or prefer that proximity. P.S.- The nearby Hybernia Cafe has a lovely bistro downstairs and a nice steakhouse upstairs. Nice places to eat when you want something close to the hotel.

Fantastic value hotel

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Tulip Inn Prague Terminus Hotel.

Excellent value for money. Spotless good size modern rooms with spacious bathrooms in an Art Nouveau building, with a designated no smoking floor. All staff at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. We had no problems with the language as they all spoke very good English and went that extra mile to make our stay a memorable one.

The hotel is in a good location for walking to tourist attractions.

Although the hotel is close to what can be described as Hammersmith Flyover this did not affect our enjoyable stay. Some traffic noise in the morning on weekdays is noticeable in the rooms at the front of the building, but quite minor and nothing to be concerned about. Our room at the rear of the building was noise free. Breakfast was certainly more than adequate, although there is room for improvement. Although the hotel does not serve evening meals, we found several very good restaurants for dinner just 5 minutes up the road. I would certainly return to this hotel again without any hesitation - we made an excellent choice.
