Waterfalls, forests, villages and skiny dipping

... glad we got pulled into doing it.

That night was awful however.. we had to get back to Ho Chi Minh city and the only was was by overnight sleeper bus... and we were the only tourists on the bus and were put beside the toilet. Normally this wouldnt be a problem as tourists dont generally get sick... well the Vietnamese dont travel well and all we heard all night was vomiting and the smell of it... such a bad end to a great three days.
Yok Don National Park

Another day driving myself around only because it was 1/3 of the price. The aim was to go to the Lak Lake and Yok Don national park. However I found out that the Lak Lake was 50km north and the Yok Don national park was 42km west so it's not possible to go to both on the same day.

I've voted that 50 km is too far for me to ride ...

Going to back to the highlands

Well today I started the day with a hang over and a long bus ride. The rest of the backpackers leave Nha Trang in a tourist sleep bus (heading for Hoi An) I leave in a mini bus.

Oh well as I head off to the middle of nowhere. It's was a 4.5 hour ride back through the hills of the highlands. This time heading north to Buon Ma ...

Village life

Vietnam has a clearly defined tourist route which runs from Saigon, all the way up the coast to Hanoi, deviating only slightly to visit Dalat. The next stop on this route is Nha Trang, a kind of Costa Del Blackpool but with better weather, waves and watersports, but with the same 'it's my one week off / I'm getting married in the morning / I have a raging drink problem / take your pick of other excuses attitude to partying. Now, I'm no stranger to a drink or two as anyone ...

Easy Rider

We left Nha Trang early in the morning. I was extremely anxious to get on the road! We saw so much on this trip that it's impossible for me to list and/or explain everything. I'm just going to give you the highlights of the stops we made and give very little detail as the photos tell most of the story (although a good portion of the photos were taken using my film camera so you won't be able to see them until I get home). A lot of this might seem mundane and ...

Buon Ma Thout to Lak Lake

Having had a taste of beach life we decided to head up into the central highlands and the coffee capital of Vietnam. The highlands of Vietnam are not as high as you might expect and plateau after a while so it feels flat again. Buon Ma Thout was a surprisingly large and cosmopolitan town, we just stayed one night and found a roll your own rice paper rolls restaurant (where you get a ...

Buon Ma Thuot

10/03/2009 The Central Highlands covers the southern part of the Touong Son mountain range and is home to many ethnic groups. Renowned for its cool climate (hmmm), mountain scenery, streams and waterfalls. The journey inland was in a transit van / race car which was fairly worrying at times but some good views all the same! Also on the road were some half tractor / half wheel barrow machines trundling along slowly filled ...

relaxing by the lake

Breakfast on the veranda and straight back onto the bikes, Mr Hai took us to see some amazing waterfalls in the morning, walked through lots of jungle to get to them, absolutely sweating and had to climb over rickety suspension bridges to get to them but really worth it. The falls are incredible and so big. Went to a another waterfall a couple of miles down the road which we could swim in, water was lovely and we were ...

Seeing the 'real Vietnam'

Up and our easy rider Mr Hai was in reception waiting for us, attached our backpacks to the back of the bikes so we could use them as back rests. Chris had his own bike which he learnt very quickly and we were straight off on our way. The coast roads out of Nha Trang were amazing, we stopped a local fishing dock and saw all kinds of very strange fish. Thankfully Mr Hai kept stopping every 30mins or so as it is pretty uncomfortable sitting on the back of the ...
