... such great views from here and we saw all of the crazy currents in the water. It was strange but they seemed to be flowing all over the place and you could see them really clearly in the sunlight. Ben had to press on as he had a bus to catch back across the islands to Onomichi so we said our goodbyes. Then we steadily carried on. The bridge seemed to last forever! As we reached the end we found a dog running around with no owner and near a busy junction. We grabbed him by ...

... impossible! For some reason this place has barely any restaurants and any we did see were so expensive. In desperation we split up to check out different streets. In one area I found loads of izakayas but all in Japanese so I couldn't read prices. We found a small convenience store and decided to just get a ready meal to take back to the hostel. What a mistake! Mine was completely tasteless and had an egg which was like plastic. I had to eat it though as I was ...

Day 13 - rest day and some blogging

As we got to sleep pretty late the night before and we had to wake up sort of early to get our free breakfast - 9AM - it didn't surprise me that we were both feeling pretty tired after breakfast. On this day we would travel to the outskirts of Hiroshima and perhaps take a bike ride between some of the islands on the Japanese Inland Sea. Once again while there is plenty of water to surf on in this region the WindGuru ...

    Day 21: 3 weeks in! Tomonoura, Sensui-jima

Today was one of the weirdest so far... After a less luxurious breakfast than we'd enjoyed in our Okayama hotel, we set off to the bus station to go to Tomonoura. The signs were all in kanji (we have a newfound empathy for people who can't read) but James had been reading about the trip the night before and so was convinced the bus left from Platform 5. About 20 minutes into the journey, James was flicking through the Rough Guide when he noticed that ...
