Now you see it.. now you don't

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!
Well, fancy meeting you here!!

... both up the hills and down them!! They had just made it through the Flueelapass, but they had lost brakes, and so the vehicle was left on the road and they put their stuff in another vehicle to get to the nearby campsite. A short night later, they eventually got back to their vehicle, and found that it was OK to drive. Gaz had removed the bonnet, to allow the engine to cool more easily.

They ...

photo, anyone?

So, Liechtenstein. the smallest country in Europe. We got stooped at the border, and asked for our passports, and what we were doing there. No problems though, and we were soon on our way.

We were almost immediately at the Capital city, Vaduz. We were definitely not going to miss the chance to do the postcards etc. So we looked for somewhere to park. We drove around a bit and ...

Across the border

Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.

We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...

... get on the bus I watched southern Liechtenstein roll past on the way to Vaduz. Cute villages with quaint houses, cows grazing in green pastures, and a castle sitting on a high hill surrounded by vineyards.

Vaduz is a very nice city. The royal residence, a castle of course, sits on a high cliff directly above the city centre. The main street is a pedestrian street with shops and restaurants, museums, the tourist office, the ...

Just Passing Through

... I just saw the BBC debates on 'Arab Unity'. Not once did anyone question why this was even desirable, nationalism being essentially systematic racism. What's wrong with Arab diversity? Palestinians are the sacrificial lamb for racist 'Arab unity'. Their problems will never be solved as long as they're an international issue, not a local one. Thai Muslims tell me that Jews are their enemy. I tell them that that's ...

Exercise in the mountains

... when i asked for other vegetables, let me know in no uncertain terms that there weren't any. Then I took my steaming plate to a table, which were at a premium at the time. I chose a place at the end of a form table, with 6 other Swiss at the other end. so i was one of the four seats remaining. I returned for some cutlery, and when I made it back to my table 20 seconds later, i had company. a family of Japanese had joined me. now there were ...

St. Moritz

... We traveled on some of the windingest roads you can imagine. Just when you thought you’d reached the valley, you would make a turn and go down some more. The scenery is so spectacular that the group is exceptionally quiet. They have to be awestruck. I know I am. The terrain returning from St. Moritz is very rocky. Wherever there is vegetation, there are cows. What a day! This was the most spectacular scenery I have ever seen. I will never be able to put into words what I ...

... apparently has a stronger constitution than I do!) Once I was on the path winding up the mountain though, I was fine. Spectacular view from up here, looking down on the valley. Took what I believe to be some good camera shots, I just hope that they come out so that I can share this experience with the others. On our way back down to town, there was a little church along the trail, so we decided to stop in and check it out. We discovered that it was a Catholic church, and ...
