      Leaving Lochovo

A travel blog entry by nicholaspappas on Mar 02, 2015

Today - Sunday - is my last day in Lechovo. It was a long day. Church began at 7:15 a.m. and finished at 10:45 a.m. I'll spare you the details. Suffice to know that my role during the Divine Liturgy was maximized as the rubrics permitted.

After another wonderful lunch and needed nap, I was given a private tour of Lechovo’s museum by the mayor and vice-regent of the "county." It’s a collection of local artifacts ...

      003 Day Two in Lechovo

Day two in Lechovo and it's now morning. The radiators are cold and I can almost see my breath. The bathroom is colder. Layered clothing is the only way to survive. First a tee-shirt, then a long-sleeved white shirt, then a sweater and add in two pair of thick, white socks and my blood starts to circulate. There must be something amiss. I wish I could call my good friend (Jimmy G.). He would know what to do and if he didn’t, then we could call his Dad (Mr. G.) ...

      ... pass.

After leaving Loannine the road sure enough was rather boring through towns and villages of nothing more than the usual shops we get in UK etc. However at one town I was going along a road when I noticed two old fighter jets standing dumped in a field and so I just had to turn and go and photo these two old jets.

Onwards I head and the road got more and more quiet and was rather boring until I came around this curve and through a large cutting and realised ...

      Prespa Lakes

In this northwestern corner of Greece, the roads approach to within a couple of kilometres of both Albania and the Macedonian Republic, but there is no access to either country. The point at which the three countries meet is in the middle of Lake Prespa Major. The area has the back-of-beyond feeling that always appeals to me.

The main population centre in Greece is the historic but very small village of Agios Germanos. We stayed at the Varmous Hotel ...

      A PLEASANT LITTLE LAGOON

... went to photograph a small monastery nearer to lake level. To most of the locals, the area was a beach used on a Sunday afternoon. We were off at 1335.

We were 96k from Bitola but had things to do on winding roads. Daniela will not be with us tonight. Got an overview of tomorrow, passport day heading to Greece. Bit dozey which I will attribute to the beer.

We climbed for a half hour for a view of the lake. This narrow road was not meant for bus ...
