... again. It clears up and we go through Sanssouci Park. There are several castles here, mid 17 hundreds, Sanssouci Palace, the New Chambers, a historic wooden windmill, and the New Palace, beautiful gardens and a Chinese House. It is really an enjoyable walk. There are lots of bike paths, if only we had bikes. We have now walked our feet of for over 3 hours, time to head home.
We make it back to the information centre just in ...
... with their caffeine addictions... I told Debra(Megan's mother) when we got back that we ate somewhere that we want to take her (and Scott too, of course) too. Today will be my day of buying new pants with Megan (hers are wrecked.... old jeans, getting holes near the ****** :( ) and RELAXING. I've been doing stuff every day all day, so now we're just gonna... ya know. Relax. Watch a movie and some cartoons! Yeah! :D -Athena
Potsdam, Brandenburg, Germany beaverteethHi Everyone :) I am so tired right now. I just arrived home from a four-hour walking tour to the SS and Gestapo headquarters, the Soviet memorial, and visiting Potsdam, outside of the city of Berlin. The Soviet Memorial has two tanks and a bronze soldier located at the top of a Gate similar to the Brandenburg Gate. It is dedicated to the Russian soldiers that entered during WWII and liberated ...
Berlin, Germany carovachon... area between the Inner and outer walls was 200m wide which is a lot of waisted land. Anyway that pretty much sums up Berlin, i could go on for hours but i won't bore you anymore. I just love this city and wish we had more time but we have another city to explore tomorrow, Prague , a 4.5 hr train ride across Eastern Germnay and into the Czech Republic. here is the link to our Germany pics that we like and also now includes Berlin http://www.flickr.com/photos/melvic/set s/72157601744911850/ Me
Berlin, Germany melvic... the company´s Media Relations. We had some great in depth conversation about business and the US. That evening we took a Berlin city pub crawl and made sure no bar was left untouched. The night life was what was needed after a long day of business related events. Let´s just say we might have tried going head to head with the Berlin bars and they might have won this time. As always, there are some great stories to one day be told. The next ...
Berlin, Germany jlewku... Cecilienhof Palace, also known as Schloss Cecilienhof which was built between 1913 and 1917 for Crown Prince Wilhelm. The Potsdam conference also took place here in July, 1945. To me, the outside looked like what I imagined a palace in Germany to look like; shades of tan and brown trimmed in black. The interior courtyard had red flowers shaped like a star. Inside we got to tour 9 rooms, including the room ...
Potsdam, Germany travelinkerry... to-face and one of the most tension areas of the Cold War. On November 9th, 1989 the Berlin wall collapsed, along with most of the Eastern Europe communist block, and the start the of the democracy began. I was only in Berlin for two days and I felt (again) like I cheated this city too. Tons of cool history here involving the time periods of the Prussian Emperor, WWI, Third Reich (Nazi Germany), WWII, and the Cold War. I took an 8 hour walking tour that pretty ...
Berlin, Germany beyermattThe Train system in Eastern Europe is crazy. I had to leave early ffrom Prague to get to Amsterdam. I ended up just going to Germany so I could navigate the trains easier. Now I am in Berlin again. My train does not leave until after midnight, but it works out wel because I can watch the Italy US game. They have big screens set up near the Reichstag to watch the games. It should be fun. I hope theUS does well, they will be out of the tournament essentially if they lose this one.
Berlin, Germany danorr... about 1430. I was pretty excited for two reasons. Firstly I had always wanted to go to Germany due to its history and Berlin in particular for this reason. And secondly because Fee had been to Berlin before I would take the lead in the number of countries visited, moving along to 51 whilst she languished on fifty. Ha ha. As I had allegedly studied German for three years at school I would get a chance to try and speak it during our time here. Every ...
