    ... we met yesterday on the tour are also there taking a flight to Rio. We have a two-hour layover at Congonhas Airport, which seems to us to be the busiest airport in the world. Announcements go on non-stop, until you want to put ear plugs in.

    Wasted so much time and energy that it was already starting to get dark – much as I really wanted to check out Dirty Old Man, a bar with microbrews, I was thwarted and had to head to a super for some generic rubbish – don’t think I’ll be giving Brahma a look in again – hopefully I won’t ever be that desperate!

    ... which was the only option available, as "lixo car" was not an option. We spent more than an hour to upgrade the car contract and paid (AUD 1000) for it. We got the hotel "Tremun Mirador del Lago" at about 7 pm. We then went out for dinner (pizza at Napoleon). Before that, we stopped at the tourism office and at the local supermarket to buy water.     However, there was not too much to keep me in Recife, so hearing good things about Praia de Pipa, 5 hrs north, I packed my bags and headed up Brasil Highway 101, where you can start to get a sense of the agricultural, industrial and economic might of the country, as vast fields of primary produce are broken up by small industrial satellite towns, again and again.
