      ... and just 6 miles or so from Italy, we stopped at a great stone fort that was used by the Italians in the 15th century to fight the Ottoman invasion, and then ironically by the Austrians to repel the Italians in the 1st World War. Sheer drop on one side, sheer cliff on the other with ladder rungs affixed to the cliff face (see photo) that allowed soldiers to quickly get to the mountain top, a very dramatic site, full of history.       ... thundering down to a small pool and lots of drips from the entire cliff. In winter the waterfall freezes over the it is sometimes a frozen curtain.
      We reached our stop for the night at Lake Bled at the relatively early time of 7pm. It is a beautiful area with a lake, castle and church on an island,.
      Unfortunately our hot air balloon flight booked for tomorrow was cancelled due to stormy weather so I will have to find some more hikes instead!!

      ... just cruising through the shallows just teasing us before turning and darting into the deep. We caught up with Daniel who had done some exploring himself and the three of us walked the remaining leg of the walk together talking, joking and laughing our way back to the bus stop where Mel was waiting for us.
