... to find it, there's not that much Slovenia on the Adriatic, Italy hogs it all. Hog! I almost forgot! We had tv last night, Bill found the history channel in English with Slovenian subtitles, declared himself in hog heaven. I have to tell you, David Caruso is no better with Slovenian subtitles than without.

The car decal here says SLO. Bled, Slovenia commuter... to a large ski-field, accessible only by a hair raising, moustache curling cable-car ride (not one for you, mum!). We spent the day hiking up the snow-less pistes and were treated to jaw-dropping views of the lake below and the surrounding mountain ranges. Unfortunately, time did not allow a visit to the nearby Slap Savic (a renowned waterfall).

The last stop on our trip and our ninth country in 23 days was Venice, Italy...
Bled, Slovenia john_and_chloe... for Bled, left at 4:43am with a connection in Jenesice. I must admit, I could hardly see out the window because of the rain and fog and my heavy eyelids. The time went by quite quickly and you'll be happy to know I did not miss my stops!!! When I arrived in Bled, it was raining and no one was around. I was not sure this was a good idea, but, I was there after all so might as well make the best of it. I walked down the path from ...
Bled, Slovenia elaqid... km and took the train another 2 kms out. Was fantastic. They even have concerts in one of the cavens which has great acoustics. After we left the caves went and had a look at Predjama Castle-it is this amazing castle built into a cave. Was home at one stage to a 'Robin Hood'- type knight. Apparrently you can go into the caves under it which would have been fun-but we didn't ...
Bled, Slovenia ka.duncan... stud farm to see the magnificent horses that are products of a refined breeding program dating back to 1580. Austrian Archduke Charles formed the farm with the aim of adding Spanish and Arab blood to the Lipizzaner strain of horses that were first used by the Romans for chariot racing. In my opinion Slovenia is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe, with so much to offer in the great outdoor, lakes, caves, gorges, mountains, rivers, forests you name it.
Bled, Slovenia kitty... they were making their journey to the Adriatic Sea. Jason came across the monster and slew it. We walked back to the old town again for a bit more architectural sightseeing, and also to see if we could find a supermarket. We eventually found a small one at the basement of a department store and stocked up on a few things before heading back to the hostel and ended up chatting for a little while from a Melbournian girl on her very first overseas trip.
Ljubljana, Ljubljana, Slovenia flashpackers... Skocjan Jame. The Skocjan caves are the centerpiece of a national park that was given the protection of UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1986. This was an amazing place. We walked a pretty rigorous 4 km or so including 500 steps down and 500 more back up so we got some good exercise in the process. But we were also treated to the most amazing sight underground that you can imagine. Unfortunately, they don't permit photography in the caves so I took a few shots from Flickr ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia kevinandstephneWe just stayed here for the one night, was a really nice place though. It was like what i'd imagine venice to be like. All the resturants and pubs were along the river. You could walk for about a mile and it would be the same just resturants, pubs and stalls all along the way. There seemed to be some kind of jazz festival on there so ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia oconnorbren... River part of it. We then followed the real river back towards the market area. We went inside the market building and admired all of the fresh breads, cheeses, meats, wines, etc. Then we wandered in the outdoor market. Fresh fruits, vegetables, plants, candles and flowers. By this time we were getting hungry and after looking at many different menus we found a place that was a bit on the outskirts of the old quarter and looked like it was ...
Ljubljana, Slovenia jimstephkrueger... was so hungry. We were both nearly in tears as we knew we could not do anything else for it and the people in the town just kept waling past and did not seem to care. We had to drag ourselves away from this poor dog, but we made sure he had heaps of water before we left...it made us so sad for the rest of the day. We decided to get onto the main highway which is a toll road and head towards to Plitvice Lakes and National Park...it was a long drive and we decided to stop in one of the ...
