We have been lucky enough to be able to spend the last 5 days relaxing on the tropical island of Phu Quoc of the coast of Vietnam, staying in an amzing (but basic) resort right on the beach. We have spent our days lolling in the sun and our evenings sitting on the beach watching the amazing sunsets. The weather has been very very hot and we have been surviving by diving in the pool or the pristine ocean every half hour or so. We spent Tom's 14th Birthday out on a tour boat island hopping, sno...
Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam tibby
... Still, nice views (it’s a very steep drop).

We then got back in the truck and saw the cathedral, water tower and post office before going to Popokvil Falls (where we had been told when we booked the tour that we would be able to swim). We rocked on up to find that, as it was dry season, it was merely a trickle over some rocks! Gutted. To add insult to injury, I smacked my knee on the corner of one of the rocks and promptly burst into tears in front of ...
Kampot, Cambodia annandrewabroad... generally going about their daily business.

Once our meal was finished, Lan accompanied us off the boat and into a waiting taxi and on to the airport for our 7:50 a.m. flight to Phu Quoc island. We sat in the airport café with him and drank coffee together before saying our final goodbyes. He was off then to catch a bus back to Sa Dec, while the crew took the boat back to Cai Be. We did exchange addresses and hope to send him a little care package once we get home--maybe a ...
Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam lisabraz... boat. It rained on the way so we were a bit apprehensive about the weather on the island, the journey only took 1.5hours and before we knew it we were surrounded by mini bus drivers wanting to take us to the beach side hotels. We eventually found the cheaper end of the beach after trekking on the beach with our big ...
Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam alyson.morgan14th August
6am start :( to get the minibus to Kampot, the journey was about 2hours so not to bad by south east Asia's standards. Arrived at Kampot and were stopped by the police, (who knows what for) and after some lengthy discussion between the driver and the police (and again some money changing hands) we were on our way again. Stayed in quite a cheap hotel by the river $5 a night for a fan room with cold water but quite a large room. Kampot is quite relaxed it is a small town on the ...
Kampot, Cambodia alyson.morgan... expensive, extremely muddy, and overall not enjoyable. The town was completely dead, but we found a reasonably Sri Lankan restaurant for dinner before calling it a night.

In the morning the sky was ominous, but we decided to walk about 8km down the road to a temple and some caves that were mentioned in our guidebook. Some kids offered to guide us around the cave, which was really interesting. Inside the cave is the ...
Kampot, Cambodia tgreenspan... in a poorly sealed guesthouse room without a mosquito net, our handy indian-bought "all out" plug in mosquito killer, or even pyjamas or a sheet, I had desperately been craving a nice, protective set of pj's. So I figured this was the perfect opportunity. We ventured into Kampot's local market, which consisted of a large ramshackle labyrinth of stalls all tarped over at a stiflingly claustrophobic height, to dress me like a local. After navigating ...
Kampot, Cambodia moonriseIt was nice and convenient getting up and going downstairs to sit in the restaurant area and order some breakfast which, in my case, was ice tea and something else I can't remember what. Anyway, in a hot climate you wouldn't want to order any hot beverage. We'll, a contingent of three jabbering French tourists sitting at another table close-by probably ordered hot coffee.
Johannes came down - eventually - and said he needed to find a hole in the wall to get some ...
Kampot, Cambodia supremacyofficially SLB birthday!!!
Happy Birthday SLB!!!

I have to keep an eye on the news today as i have a bet on the celebrity 'death pool' sick i know :)
Up nice and early today, its lovely and sunny so yep i think we will go to the beach for more chillin, swimmin, relaxin, swimmin, sleepin, swimmin
We had thought about travelling around the island to BAI DAI beach so might go there later, in fcat i think this is the reason that we came here, DK had read about it ...
Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam gdvc... We wandered into a small fishing village, and were invited into a 3 walled house (more of a shed really) with nothing more than a shrine and a hammock, and not to forget the 7 Vietnamese men drinking rice whiskey on plastic kid chairs, around an even smaller coffee table. They amiably joined us into the celebration by forcing a pound of dried squid (head, danglers and all) down our throats, along with several different beverages made from god-knows ...
