We woke in The Marmara with enough time for one more breakfast before flying home. Looking at the empty sun loungers that we had sat on the day before with Hannah we both felt a strange sad absence at the same time. A text message in the night had let us know she was home ...

Today, the Rhapsody of the Seas pulled into Bodrum, Turkey, and I'm afraid that the Turners did not get off the ship. We always enjoy the days when the ship is in port, because the decks are empty! We know that Bodrum is a beautiful beach town, but we have been to so many fabulous beaches, we decided to skip it. This is definitely touristville and from all accounts this is typical along this stretch of Turkish coastline. JaM stop for a cappuccino and take in the vista of jelly belly white pommies blobbing in the calm azure ocean and some lounging on white cushioned banana chairs perfectly lined up in rows of hundreds. At this moment I wish I was one ...

There is more than 2,500 years of history here. This was once the city of Halicarnassus, seat of the Kingdom of Caria, whose King Mausolos was entombed in a building heralded as a wonder of the ancient world. Centuries later Crusader Knights used marble from the tomb's ruins to construct St. Peter's Castle where the medieval fortress still stands guard over Bodrum's ...
