Day 1: First Beach Day
A straight forward crossing on a fast catamaran from Butterworth to Langkawi - departure at 8:30am so we had to get up at 6:30(!). Technofunk was blasting out full volume when we boarded, soon to be replaced by the latest Terminator film showing on a couple of small TVs at the front that were impossible to see.
20 February
With bags packed, we headed to the Paradise Lost restaurant for breakfast (R7 for toast, jam & coffee, what else?) and enjoyed catching up on world news via Wally's satellite CNN on TV. We surmise that all must be well in the world if Tiger Woods’ post-infidelity press conference is the day’s breaking interna...
We're blogging together tonight...
Today we got up at 5 am to depart by ferry from Pinang to Langkawi. We had 3 hours of smooth sailing under blue skies, on top of aqua waves, in perfect weather.
Upon arrival, our bags were piled 5 feet high on the dock for everyone to rummage through. I picked up a nice 3 piece set of Sams...
Herlige Langkawi :D
The morning in the train south: The alarm rang at 7am and we got up quickly to pack our stuff. Minutes later the train manager knocked the door and asked what we wanted for breakfast. Baffled, we looked at each other and then told the guy that we don't want breakfast as we planned to have proper breakfast in Had Yai. The train manager laughed (i...
Ko Lipe, Satun, Thailand barbieandkenThe ferry from Koh Phangan to Surrathani was awful. Not as bad as the ferry in the Philippines I was on 10 years ago though. But still. Half the group arrived back to the bungalows 40 minutes late so we missed out on getting mattresses and fans and had to sleep on the floor on mats in the sweltering, sticky heat. I was sweating for hours, even w...

The decision to take a trip to Malaysia was pretty last minute - but so far, that's how the majority of our plans are made. For some odd reason (most likely due to the boys' lack of common sense), we decided to travel as far into the country as possible. Langkawi is a common tourist destination located on the opposite side of Malaysia (from Sing...

Leaving Koh Lanta with some regret, we set off on an unexpectedly lengthy mission to Koh Lipe, newly provided with handy ferry links southwards and on to Malaysia.
It is never a good sign when you see someone running down a jetty carrying a diving mask and a knife, and sure enough the crew of 'Tigerline' had wrapped a mooring line so s...
Langkawi is an archipelago consisting of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, south of Thailand, 30km off the mainland coast of northwestern Peninsular Malaysia.
