What Do You Mean Flat Feet?

So we arrived here a couple of days ago after our 16 hour bus trip from Airlie Beach. It wasn't a bad trip actually. When you catch an overnight bus in Asia you really are hanging on and praying alot as they take every bend in the road in 4th gear and overtake anything else regardless of whats coming towards them. In Australia we have the advantage of straight roads, hardly any other traffic and then theres always the law if anything does go wrong. Still, I didn't get much of a sleep but, as ...

Queensland, beautifull one day ....

... she said we only need swimmers, knickers and clothes to go out at night. I think she is taking us to a penthouse and Spa in Noosa. Just up our street as we are looking forward to a bit of a rest. So we may not be able to contact you all for the next few days so we will be looking forward to some news from home the next time we log in if possible.

... almost as many bridges over the seasonal creeks which disgorged into the valley below. Many died in the process approximately 30 from accidents but others from bubonic plague malaria and other tropical diseases. This section took 6 years to complete at a cost of £291,000 and the line did not finally reach h Herberton until 1910. (Presumably the miners found a way to obtain food in the meantime.) The Cairns to Kurunda section is now called the Kurunda Scenic railway and is ...

Tropical nth Qld

Another overnighter on the Savannah Way Road, and we arrived back into the lush greenness of tropical north queensland. What a change from the dry and dusty gulf country and what a shock when it actually rained one night! Our first camp was in Tully Gorge on Koombaloomba Dam. A relaxing spot to sit & relax while the kids ran amuck with yet more fellow kid travellers. And M managed to catch some fish here ...

Days 81-85: Great Barrier Reef and Ellis Beach

... host of living things, composed of living coral growing on dead coral dating back perhaps as much as twenty million years. Many generations of dead coral have built themselves into great walls of stone covered in a diverse range of living organisms such as coral, algae, anemones, sponges, fish, worms, starfish, turtles, molluscs, snakes, crustaceans, and an extraordinary array of thousands of species of plants and animals.
Although there is no direct physical evidence ...

Cairns: Great Barrier Reef and Rainforests

... night in a hostel in Cairns and we were picked up the next morning by Cherene, our guide with On The Wallaby tour company. I had done a few tours around Australia, but this was Melissa's first experience, and she described it best as adult summer camp. You start out quiet on a small bus with 20 strangers the first morning, and by the end of the second day, you are exchanging email and Facebook info and vowing to visit and stay in touch! The On the Wallaby adventure was two days ...

Farewell to Cairns

A few parting thoughts about Cairns.  It's hot here! A tropical paradise .....or an open air sauna for Scandinavians.  Forget about keeping up with your laundry.  Know that you and your clothes will be soaking wet within 30 minutes of showering.  A little travel tip you might appreciate....Since using deodorant in a a traditional manner is a losing proposition, I've resorted to applying ...

First two weeks in Cairns

... a beautiful drive up Capt Cook Highway followed by a boat ride over the Daintree River where we managed to spot a teenage croc in the water! Some trekking through the ranforests in the Daintree National Park and we settled at PK's Jungle Village for a few nights. Later that day a couple of us explored and found another freshwatre creek and took advantage of the ropeswing (some more gracefully than others) and ...
