Chilling in Caye Caulker, Belize

Only 10 days to go so it is time for some chilling out and what better place than Caye Caulker. CC is a fab little island without cars, two main streets, many bar, fab eateries, amazing diving and coconut rum! After climbing temples at Tikal, I headed off on the mini bus to Belize City, very strange being on a mini bus rather than a chicken bus. Such easy travelling as the bus went directly to the water taxi terminal and it was an easy hop to Caye Caulker. I was in CC 8 years ago and it has g...

the sharks are scared of YOU!

Caye Caulker—a super place to vacation (in the semi-low season). Quiet sand streets , called Front St., Middle St., Back St., for which the taxis are golf carts! Found some fun people to hang with (Australian, Kiwi, Dutch, Israeli), and I had an amazing time snorkeling with Ragamuffin Tours. At three spots in (or near) Hol Chan Marine Reserve, I saw octopus, lobster, conch, eel, schools of fish, stingray, and nurse sharks! The sharks were scared and swam off when we entered the water. A...

... to "assist" us with retrieving our items which were tied down on the roof under a tarp.

The ride over to Caye Caulker on the fast boat was about 45 minutes and the water was amazingly clear and every color of blue imaginable. Once away from Belize City the country really is a friendly, wonderful place. In fact, I had read in a guidebook that Belize City is best only used as a transit point and I am planning the rest of the trip to ...

Sun, sea, sand.... Xmas!

... good on Caye Caulker, but we also ate more lobster/crayfish than ever - at $12 for a big ´um, you´d be mad not to. Beer aside, the ´Panti Rippa´ was where it was at - local coconut rum with pineapple juice.

After a few days, we realised that it was getting hard to leave. Xmas was coming up and we were having an awesome time. We´d arrived with Cam and Craig, the Aussies, Patrick, met the Dutch and Iranian girls, the French and also ...

Snorkelling with Sharks & Manatees on the reef!!!

... that wasn't the end of it as Nik and I headed back towards the boat there we are having a chat just floating around I had seen a grey shape to the left of us and thought it was a rock. However when we started to snorkel again with heads under the water we saw it was a manatee it had been so close to us and we didn't even know. Suitably impressed we made it back to the boat with the others it had been an incredible afternoon and we headed back to our cabana on the beach with ...

Diving at St. George's Caye and Long Caye Canyons

... our room. There was nobody there when we arrived and they weren't making pizza that night. The owner did convince us to try some of his fresh seafood, though, which was being displayed streetfront. He seemed very desperate to get us to eat there since the place was empty. We decided to split some fresh grouper and he promised that his mix of spices would make it the best we'd ever had. It was very good, but maybe not the best we ...

Belize - Caye Calker

... hopped into the insanely warm, turquoise waters, hooked the kite onto my harness and I was off! Again it was butter flat water and not a single additional kiter around, meaning I had the entire expanse of water in front of the beach all to myself! I had a full four hour session (broken up into two parts) and loved every second of it. Charlotte was getting jealous sitting on the beach watching all of this, so decided to take a 2 hour lesson from Rodolfo the next day to try and ...

Sea-ing is Belize-ing

After we left Tulum, we made our way South toward Belize. Stopped in a city called Chetumal right near the Mexico-Belize border. Its basically Mexico's version of Canberra. Whilst its not the capital, the place is full of government buildings, departments an so on... not a great deal to see there really. Next day we jumped in a taxi in Chetumal and had the driver drop us off at the border, where we proceeded to literally ...
