Our second port of call in Brazil was Maceio, 129 nautical miles south of Recife. This relatively small city of one million was much more like a resort town while still having poor neighbourhoods. It was lined with beaches, and safe from sharks due to a reef just off the coast. They boast tides of 3 metres, so that at low tide one can walk way out to the reef in just knee depth water. The economy is based on sugar cane, coconuts and oil ...

The party on the beach was unfortunately finished when we got there at about 11 at night, only empty bottles and poeple leaving and i couldn't convince them to go to the other side of the town to find something ...

... but Plettenberg Bay in Australia, and never that big. Unfortunately we could not bring any back into Australia.

Our next stop in the schooner was in Pontal da Barra. This is a fisherman village where the famous “reindeiras”, the lace makers from Maceio, live, work and sell their beautiful lace. It is also an area notorious for all those issues so often prevalent in low socioeconomic areas where poverty and crime is rife. Many of the faces ...

Today we woke up in our amazing hotel. The blue room... Took a very good breakfast full of fruits, granola, cheese ;-) then we stayed in the room for a couple of hours to decide our next step: recife e porto de galinhas. After a full day of beach where the water was super blue and the sun shinning like hell! The juices and agua de coco are very tasty. Today we tryed on of pineaple that came on a true pineaple! A dream. Joao decided ...
