On Tuesday, we decided on a 'light' event day and just visited the Botanical Gardens. Very well kept and the good layout. The orchid house was a feature of this garden as well as a cactus section. I was starting to go down with something with temp and hot /cold flushes, so after lunch (which Simmy brought at a hortifruity - thats local lingo for fruit//vege shop.) we headed back to our accomodation ...

Back at the hostel decisions were being made. Rather than rolling out to Sao Paulo on Wednesday I've extended my stay here by two days so that I can hit Ill Grande <sic> with a few others from the hostel. It is basically just a beach island, but will offer some respite from the drinking which from what I understand is the main thing to do in Sao Paulo. ... complex with these crazy stained glass windows. This church was massive and situated in the heart of rio city. It as good to see that rio has so much more to offer than just the beaches and the mountains. We also went to do a bit of a shop in Botofogo and just relaxed untill we were ready to take on the rest of the day. We then went to the FIFA fan fest and check it out this thing is massive, properly huge!! We walked through the one entrance ...

.....they were the words our Rio tour guide Eliana left us with yesterday. So given it was the weekend and we had been going pretty hard since we left Sydney I told Spencer he could do whatever he wanted today. He said he wanted to go to the beach and play football – can't argue with that.

After brekkie at the hotel, we put our cossies and flip flops on and headed to the beach. Our hotel in Copacabana is 100m from the beach so ...
