This year we have pretty much stuck to our intended clockwise route around the Iberian peninsula but the area I had least planned was northern Spain, with the exception of the Picos de Europa mountain range - a 'must see', we had both agreed. This was partly due to not knowing how long we would be able to devote to exploring the area and also the weather, which can be changeable. Indeed, as we drove northwards the cloud cover was ...

A couple of good reasons for heading out to the far west are that we have never been to this part of Spain and this is the area where they produce Abariņo wine, one of Jo's favourites. Unlike the south this is very green as it is kept cooler and wetter by the Atlantic weather systems.

The day was searing hot and the street taps are handy for re-filling water bottles.I think ...

... as we return to our side of the globe. We think about our friends and family at home and wish all good things in your lives. In so many ways, we wish we could spend a day on the Camino with each and every one of you. Tomorrow I will have some final thoughts about our walk into Santiago. Then it's on to Lubbock, Texas for a performance with my dear former students at Texas Tech University before we return home to Santa ...

    Expectations

... do I calm my expectations? Is it even possible to do so? When I am able to have no expectations or at least reasonable ones, I am rarely disappointed. However, it occurred to me the opposite is also true. I have come to Portugal/Spain with very high expectations of beauty and I look for it everyday and all around me. As a result, I see it everywhere. I am confident when I am at home (or somewhere else) and am not looking for beauty, it alludes me. The ...
