... It wasn't the greatest beach. No helped by all the beach huts some in a state of disrepair along our stretch. Not many people around as it's low season. No cafés or restaurants along the beach either which was also disappointing. There were a few restaurants in town one of which we returned to a few times. The first time we went Tom ordered one of the best curries we've ever had. So much so we went back again so that I could have it too! They sold beer and lots of western food so ...

... driving the scooter. It was a very wobbly and short lived experience. One that I don't think Craig enjoyed very much. Back to being the passenger!

We also visited Mandrem beach which was probably the most beautiful of them all. Perfect white sand and crystal blue water. We could not resist, we grabbed a sunbed and relaxed.
We headed back to Vagator for dinner in a local Tibetan ...

... spliff hung in the air as heavy as the incense the travellers burnt incessently. The parties here used to be legendary, uv lit affairs with pounding sound systems and free flowing chemical assistance, you could even buy pure methamphetamine from the chemists, it was a hedonists paradise. A cheap paradise amongst others who "really felt the spiritual connection here", speak of how life here “was the way things really should be, man” and how “the systems so ****** ...

... the remains of St Francis Xavier (don't know much about him since I'm not Catholic). His casket is elevated but made of glass so you can partially see his body, mainly an arm, hand, chest & side of face. Apparently there's no explanation for why his remains have not deteriorated over the past centuries.

Anyway, it was nice to take a couple hours and see the old churches. HOT but nice. I'm more interested in stuff like that than the beach ...

We had planned a day of visiting temples and the ruins of palaces which the area of Hampi has many of. Hampi is referred to as the birth place of the Hindu religion, the previous afternoon we had walked up the 550 stairs past groups of monkeys that led to a temple on top of a hill. This temple was apparently the home of Hanuman the Monkey God a very important figure in the Hindu religion, pilgrims who come to visit and worship at this temple pay homage to the monkeys on the ...
