Bulgaria. EEC, but almost not there.
After we've enjoyed Serbia, especially small mountain routes, we'got to Bulgaria. The difference to the other EEC countries is really visible, especially when you want to find anything. GPS simply doesn't work there, just showing rubbish, road signs ...
Beautiful Bulgaria
... there was a 2pm bus it was perfect! When we tried to buy the tickets (by pointing to numbers) the lady just shook her finger at us...we were slightly confused. After much non verbal communication we understood our only option was an over night bus leaving at 10:30. Overnight buses are never fun or restful, but the bus company (called metro) is suppose to be the "top of the line". We will let you know how it goes!

Oldest town in Europe and comparisons
... As I said earlier in this entry, Bulgaria seems to have less to offer than Romania, and therefore as we plan to make out way over the border on a night bus (!)... I look back at the highlights of these two countries.
Romania
Beautiful homestay in Vadu Izei - the Palenka induced card game (unluck, lucky or just too drunk?) and a variety of sights include the rather different Merry Cemetary in Sapanta.

Trip to the Bulgarian Countryside
... but to be fair, I was wearing flip flops - not the best choice for footwear!). The "steps" up to the fortress were essentially like marble - worn down by time and smoothed out. Nice and slippery, plus no guard rails.
After returning back to the hotel, Dennis and I checked each other for ticks. None to be found! Tomorrow is our last day in Sofia and there is still a lot to see. We leave by train from Sofia to Istanbul around 7pm.
