Historical Traveler Reviews Trident, Agra
Comfortable hotel, elegant rooms, lovely setting, excellent food and service
This hotel proves that Indian hotels in the mid price range really can be world class - it provides for a very reasonable price what one usually finds in India for top dollar only.
The entire hotel is beautifully designed and the rooms are modern, elegant and comfortable. The public areas are comfortable - the pool and garden are peaceful and pretty, the dining area is clean and well lit, the bar has just (Nov 2006) been refurbished.
Service is absolutely excellent. Attentive, friendly, efficient and staff all have the brains to take the initiave in providing good service rather than ploddingly following a set script.
Food is good and one knows it's "safe" to eat it - no fears of Delhi Belly here and very enjoyable cuisine to boot.
I stayed overnight in April and revisited just for a meal in November and was consistently impressed by this hotel, especially when comparing it to several others of similar and higher price ranges.
My husband and I stayed at the Trident Hilton, for one night last weekend.
Overall, I'd say the hotel is quite nice.
The staff is friendly and very helpful. Provided good directions and maps when we needed them!
Very good dining experience as well. Tasty food, and the tables were well attended by the staff.
The rooms are decent in size, and quite clean. But nothing exciting about the decor. Same can be said about the restaurant. Its clean and simple.. quite stark, actually, and doesnt look like anyone has given any thought to its decor. But like I said earlier, the food quite makes up for it.
On the whole, our experience at this hotel has been quite good, and I'll certainly reccommend it to other travellers.
Oh.. I forgot to add one thing. While making reservations, you might consider calling up the hotel directly. We saved about INR 1200 on the internet price..!
Another decent Hilton
Before arriving in Agra, we were worried about this hotel becuase after all you are in India and a Hilton might not be a Hilton in India. Never the less the hotel was good. It was clean, the room was a proper hotel room with a nice double bed. The shower was a litlle retarded because there were no blinds but that's not a big down side for the room.
We got REALLY lucky when we checked in cause the pool was undergoing renovations - so we were redirected to the AMAZING Amar Villas hotel. We were so happy to be in that fabolous hotel we just stayed there the entire day, enjoying the great looking pool. If you can, have a visit and a swim in the amar villas; it is not so expensive for guests.
The Hilton (also -known to locals only as Trident, not Hilton) might not be on the Taj in terms of distance but it is really close, about 4 min in a tok-tok is all you need.
Two night stay
I stayed at this hotel with my partner for two nights whilst on holiday touring the Indian 'Golden Triangle' in May 2006. The hotel is relatively basic by Hilton standards but offered comfortable rooms that were far from luxurious but were clean and well maintained. Im a Gold card Holder so was offered a pool view rom away from the main road which I would recommend.
The staff were excellent and very friendly proving packed lunches for us when aranging to see the Taj Mahal by sunrise.
The hotel was quiet during our stay and the hotel dining options were limited in terms of choice / menus but were adequate. The Sheaton is only a 5 minute drive away with more dining options.
The swimming pool area is very pleasant with sunloungers and tables/chairs providing ideal respite from the summer heat.
There is not much in Agra apart from the Taj Mahal and a few other sites of interest - Agra Fort is the main second attraction. I would certainly recommend a sunrse view of the Taj when there are less crowds and the temperature is lower.
I would stay at this hotel again if in Agra.
Modern, Clean, Well Priced Hotel
Excellent hotel. The rooms were very nice, new and well furnished. Great ambience and staff and the courtyard area with pool and lounge area was very nice.
At $100/night for a double room it is not cheap by Indian standards but is infinitely more than you would get in the US or Europe for the same price.
Loved the Hotel
We got to Agra from Jaipur with 2 tired boys, 8,13. It was extremely hot and they loved the pool. The front desk tried to help out my younger one with toys, but he was only interested in the pool. Rooms were big and comfortable. We had adjoing rooms. Both came very well furnished overlooking a lush lawn.
Taj was quite close for us. The driver had his own place to stay in the hotel so he was acessible at all time. I would definitely recommend this hotel. The bar was also good. They had a palmist on site :-). So it was fun to get ones hand read while having a drink. The kids loved their breakfast as they could have cereal and also they could special order their omelets :-)
Great hotel, very freindly / helpful staff - recommeded
A really pleasant stay - good facilites, great price and really helpful staff.
The hotel is a little way out from the town and Taj Mahal is a car ride/taxi or rikshaw - you could not walk all that way. There are other hotels closer to the TM but you will find a rikshaw stand right outside the hotel (REALLY cheap way to travel around and FUN too). Otherwise use the htoel travel service and pay 20 t0 30 times the price. Agra is so small really that the rikshaw rides are ok really.
I would stay here again and would encourage you to consider the location, price and facilities too.
Nice place to stay
Hotel located in a quiet area not too far from Taj Mahal. Staff is friendly. Rooms are clean and food is ok: buffet including western and indian food.
We recently stayed at the Trident Hilton and found it excellent in every way. The service was impeccable and the staff were charming and friendly - I was particularly impressed at their patience with two young children who were running riot! I cannot recommend it highly enough. It may be a short distance fron Agra but taxis in India are cheap....
Over-priced and too far out!
This hotel is not as nice as the Trident Hilton in Jaipur. It has a bad location and is too pricey for such an average hotel. I would not stay there again.
