    ... After a drink at a cafe annex home-turned-restaurant I walked back 3.4km on flat land alongside the foresty ridge. I passed a funny apple plantation on the way, where apparently you could pay money, go into the plantation by car, and then pick apples and fill a whole basket with apples of your choice... or so it seemed from what I saw.

    Looked around the town, had expensive, not-so-good coffee on the touristy main square (staff was a bit snooty too). When I asked whether they had wifi for the guests, she looked at me like I had just escaped from a lunatic asylum. No wifi anywhere in this whole Harz region, not that I could find anyway.

    Lots of rain kind of limited the options ...

    ... out like a spider web through small villages and rich farmland. No uniform grid of roads along section lines here! We thought we would be at Wernigrode by 4:00 but pulled up just before 7:00PM. A fun (sometimes frustrating) way to really see the German countryside.

    We dropped off our washing at the laundromat, grabbed a map from the info centre, and started wandering around the southern end of town and the old town. Checked out the streams, Stan found numerous little trout which duly impressed Sabina. The Tin museum was also quite good, regretted not buying a big chess set of the Romans verses the Germans.
